Luis Castillo was outstanding in a no-decision against the Twins on Sunday, scattering four hits over six innings of scoreless baseball.
The right-hander punched out five opposing hitters on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. Unfortunately for Castillo and his fantasy managers, the M’s weren’t able to scratch out a single run of support while he was in the ballgame. Castillo generated a whopping 19 swings and misses on 97 pitches in the contest — nine on his slider and eight on his fastball — while registering a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine performance as he carries a 3.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 55/23 K/BB ratio (68 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s showdown against the Angels in Los Angeles.

Luis Castillo allowed three runs in six innings and got a no-decision against the Astros on Sunday.
Castillo gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out six. The 32-year-old right-hander has allowed three runs or less in six of his last seven starts. Castillo has a 3.32 ERA on the season, but his 4.31 xFIP is nearly a full run higher. Fantasy managers might want to tread lightly with Castillo going forward as his strikeout and walk rates are both trending in the wrong directions this year. While he still gets a good amount of ground balls, his 5.6 percent home run per fly ball percentage is saving his ERA so far this year and he could be in trouble if it regresses towards his career home run per fly ball percentage of 13.7 percent. Castillo is in line to face the Twins at home next weekend.

Luis Castillo blanked the White Sox for seven innings, allowing just three hits, in earning a victory Monday.
Castillo struck out five and walked none. He gave up 10 hard-hit balls, but they did little damage. It’s Castillo’s first win in four tries this month, though he pitched well in a pair of no-decisions. He’s 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA and a 44/20 K/BB in 56 1/3 innings overall. He’ll be a weaker play in mixed leagues with his next start coming in Houston; including tonight, he’s 6-8 with a 4.20 ERA in 18 road starts since the beginning of last year.

Luis Castillo limited the Yankees to one run over six innings in a no-decision Wednesday.
It was destined to be a good day for Castillo when Julio Rodríguez robbed Trent Grisham of a homer on the first at-bat of the game. After seeing his velocity dip in a poor outing against the Jays last week, Castillo averaged a season-high 95.4 mph on his fastball today. He still gave up plenty of hard contact, but he struck out six and had 17 whiffs. He’s not an every-week guy in mixed leagues these days, but he’s a fine play with the White Sox next on the schedule.

Luis Castillo gave up five runs in five innings while being credited with a loss Friday to the Blue Jays.
Castillo gave up two runs in the first after issuing a couple of free passes, and he allowed three in the third; two of those on a homer by Nathan Lukes. It’s a disappointing outing after Castillo was so good in his last two contests with just one run allowed over 12 innings, but he was at least able to keep Toronto off the board over the final two frames. The 32-year-old will get the Yankees on Wednesday.

Luis Castillo went six innings and allowed just one run, but he didn’t factor into the decision Saturday against the Rangers.
Castillo’s only blemish on the scoreboard was an RBI single from Jonah Heim in the fourth inning. He dealt with some traffic as seen in four hits and two walks, but he was able to wiggle out of all but that one jam. Castillo has now only allowed just one run over his last 12 innings, and his ERA has dropped to a very solid 3.29 in the process. Castillo will get the Blue Jays at home next week if the Seattle rotation doesn’t change.

Luis Castillo allowed just one hit over six innings with five strikeouts and no runs allowed to pick up a win over the Marlins on Saturday.
After a couple of shaky outings on the road, Castillo was brilliant in the win back in his friendly confines of Seattle. The 32-year-old was rarely challenged, and was able to get a couple key punchouts in the Marlins’ few rallies. Castillo is no longer the ace of the staff, but more often than not, the results please those who have him in their fantasy lineups.

Luis Castillo allowed three runs in five innings and got the win in the Mariners’ 8-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Castillo gave up 10 hits, walked two and struck out five. With the Mariners taking a big lead, the 32-year-old right-hander just had to get through five innings to get the win. Castillo did just that, though he allowed 10 hits including four doubles. He’s recorded two wins and a 4.44 ERA on the season. Castillo doesn’t look as good as the pitcher we’ve seen in previous years, but he’s got a great matchup next weekend at home against the Marlins.

Luis Castillo was tagged for six runs in 4 1/3 innings by the Reds on Tuesday.
There’s probably more of this coming from Castillo, whose velocity is down about one mph from last year and three mph from his peak. His strikeout rate is currently 19%, compared to 24% last season and 27% the two years before that. He’s really only a mixed-league option in his home starts. Next up, though, is an outing in Toronto.

Luis Castillo tossed five scoreless innings with with six strikeouts in a no-decision against the Astros on Tuesday.
Castillo did a great job shutting down the Astros over five innings, scattering four hits and two walks while striking out six batters on 14 whiffs. The biggest threat against the 32-year-old right-hander came in the fourth inning as he was able to escape a bases-loaded jam. Castillo started the sixth inning but was relieved after giving up a leadoff base hit. He’ll carry a 2.12 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts over 17 innings through three starts into a matchup against the Reds in Cincinnati next Tuesday.
