Lourdes Gurriel (knee) is pushing to return by Opening Day but that’s “not a realistic timeline for at the moment.”
Gurriel had ACL surgery in September so Opening Day would be about a six-month recovery. It shouldn’t be a surprise that it’s an unrealistic return date, but there have been social media posts stating that it’s his goal, so it’s worth mentioning. The Diamondbacks will have a couple outfield spots to fill on opening day, which could be good news for Jordan Lawlar’s chances to finally crack the roster.

Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (knee) is well ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation process.
Gurriel underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee back in September and is likely to be sidelined until at least the second half of next season, even if he makes a lightning-quick recovery. The 32-year-old corner outfielder is entering the final year of his deal with Arizona and could make an impact for fantasy managers over the final few months once he makes it back. There should be a clearer return timeline once he’s officially cleared to resume baseball activities. The Diamondbacks decision to ship Jake McCarthy to the division-rival Rockies reads like a quiet vote of confidence in top prospect Ryan Waldschmidt, who hit .309/.423/.498 with nine homers and 19 steals in 300 plate appearances over 66 games for Double-A Amarillo this past season, and now enters spring training with a real opportunity to compete for a starting role while Gurriel is sidelined.

Diamondbacks OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. exercised his $13 million player option for 2026.
Gurriel underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee back in September and is likely to be sidelined until at least the second half of next season. The 32-year-old corner outfielder finished last year slashing .248/.295/.418 with 19 homers, 80 RBI and a career-high 10 stolen bases in 546 plate appearances.

Independent journalist Francys Romero reports that Lourdes Gurriel Jr. underwent successful surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
The 31-year-old outfielder is facing a 9-10 month recovery timeline, so he won’t be expected to be ready to help out the Diamondbacks until June or July of the 2026 season. He finishes the 2025 season slashing .248/.295/.418 with 19 homers, 80 RBI and a career-high 10 stolen bases in 546 plate appearances.

Diamondbacks placed OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a torn ACL in his right knee.
It’s the worst-possible outcome for Gurriel, who will obviously miss the rest of the current season and figures to be sidelined into 2026 as well. The 31-year-old outfielder suffered the injury on a non-contact play during Monday’s game against the Rangers whole trying to avoid a collision in left-center field with teammate Blaze Alexander, who was making his first-ever start in the outfield. There should be a definitive return timetable once he undergoes season-ending surgery.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will undergo tests Tuesday for a right knee injury.
The D-backs didn’t have a diagnosis for Gurriel’s injury after the game. He was hurt in the sixth inning against the Rangers as he tried to avoid a collision with Blaze Alexander in left-center. Alexander and Jake McCarthy are due for additional playing time while he’s out.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was carted off in the sixth inning Monday with a leg injury.
Gurriel was hurt while trying to avoid center fielder Blaze Alexander, who was in the process of making an excellent diving catch in left center. One imagines he’ll be out for quite some time, which will create more time for Alexander and Jake McCarthy in the outfield.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Dodgers.
Gurriel receives his first day off since August 13. The 31-year-old slugger remains one of the more underrated contributors in the fantasy landscape as he’s putting together another excellent campaign with 19 homers, 80 RBI and a career-high 10 thefts through 127 contests.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI on Saturday night as the Diamondbacks routed the visiting Reds.
Gurriel got the scoring started with an RBI single off of Andrew Abbott in the home half of the first inning and came around to score on an RBI double by Gabriel Moreno. He then swatted a 392-foot (98.0 mph EV) two-run shot in the third inning that increased the Diamondbacks’ lead to 5-0. He’s enjoying another solid season offensively, slashing .251/.298/.423 with 18 homers, 76 RBI and 10 stolen bases across 513 plate appearances.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. drove in two runs including a walk-off single in the 11th inning to beat the Reds on Friday.
Gurriel isn’t having one of his best seasons, but he’s had some big hits in 2025, including one today. His single up the middle drove in Corbin Carroll and gave the D-backs the win in the 11th. Gurriel now has 73 RBI on the season to go with a less-than-spectacular .249/.297/.416 slash.
