The Guardians plan to promote left-hander Doug Nikhazy to start the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox.
The 25-year-old left-hander has made four starts at Triple-A Columbus this season, posting a 3.44 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and a 22/7 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings. He’ll likely be the 27th man for the twin bill and will head back to Triple-A after the spot start, so there’s no reason to try to add him for fantasy purposes. Ben Lively will start the first game after his start was rained out on Friday. It’s unclear if Logan Allen — who was originally scheduled to start on Saturday — will get pushed back to Sunday, or if the Guardians will shuffle their rotation.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen allowed one run on five hits in 5 2/3 innings in a tough-luck no-decision against the Pirates on Sunday.
The left-hander struck out five and walked one on the day, and seemed on his way to another win before the bullpen blew a three-run ninth inning lead. There’s nothing exceptional about what Allen is doing, but he’s pounding the strike zone with four of his five offerings and earned 20 called strikes during the game. That command-centric approach has helped him register a 2.11 ERA so far this season, but it’s tough to recommend him next weekend against the Red Sox.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen shut out the Orioles for 5 2/3 innings to pick up his first win Tuesday.
He struck out six and allowed just two hits. It’s Allen’s first win since last June 20, when he improved to 8-3 in spite of a 5.23 ERA. He went on to spend most of the rest of the year in the minors, and he was expected to open up back in Triple-A this season before others faltered this spring. He has a 2.30 ERA through three starts this season, but his 11/9 K/BB in 15 2/3 innings is less impressive. He’s still not recommended in mixed leagues, though this Sunday’s start in Pittsburgh is tempting.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen didn’t factor in the decision after going 4 1/3 innings while allowing one unearned run to the White Sox on Wednesday.
Allen allowed four hits and two walks while striking out four. He wasn’t able to get deep enough for a win — even while facing a team that gives up a lot of them — while throwing 52-of-83 pitches for strikes. Not bad, but not what you’re looking for from a stream against Chicago. Allen would be a risky streamer against the Orioles on Tuesday.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen allowed four runs with one strikeout over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Padres on Tuesday.
Allen dodged trouble early on, stranding five baserunners with the help of three ground ball double plays. But he could only get by for so long without missing any bats. Jackson Merrill took him deep for a solo shot in the fourth inning to put the Padres on the board. Two more runs would score on a walk and two hits in the fifth. Allen struck out his first batter to start the sixth and walked two more before his day was done. The 26-year-old left-hander lines up for a start against the White Sox in Cleveland next Tuesday.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen will be the Guardians’ fifth starter to open the season.
Allen had a 1.89 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 19/4 K/BB ratio in 19 innings this spring. Just 26, he had a 3.81 ERA in 125 innings in 2023, but was booted from the rotation after posting a 5.73 ERA in 20 starts in 2024. Allen is someone for AL-Only managers to be aware of to start the year as the Guardians are giving him another chance to stick in the rotation.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen held the Angels to one run in 4 2/3 innings and struck out six on Wednesday.
Luis L. Ortiz has been awful, and Joey Cantillo is experiencing his usual control issues, so the door might be open for Allen to sneak in and claim the fifth spot in the Cleveland’s rotation. He has a 1.89 ERA and a 19/4 K/BB in 19 innings.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen yielded five runs — four earned — in 3 2/3 innings Friday in a no-decision against the Mariners.
Allen came into the day having allowed just one run in 10 2/3 innings in a long shot bid to claim a spot in Cleveland’s rotation, so this one hurts. Luis L. Ortiz and Joey Cantillo are viewed as the favorites to open up as the Guardians’ fifth starter.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen pitched well in Thursday’s spring start against the White Sox, allowing just one hit over 2 2/3 innings of shutout baseball.
The 26-year-old southpaw piled up four strikeouts on the afternoon while allowing only one free pass, though he also plunked two batters, fracturing Andrew Benintendi’s hand in the process. The lone hit that Allen allowed was a leadoff single to Tristan Gray to begin the third inning. He got five whiffs on 44 offerings, posting a CSW of 32 percent. He’s still a long way away from being a viable fantasy option, but this was a nice step in the right direction.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #41
Guardians optioned LHP Logan Allen to Triple-A Columbus.
Allen heads back to the minors after surrendering five runs over five innings in a spot start during Monday’s twin bill against the Royals. The 25-year-old lefty has has struggled to an uninspiring 5.73 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 79/41 K/BB ratio across 97 1/3 innings (20 starts) this season at the highest level. After looking like a potential back-end rotation option for fantasy managers, he’s best left on waiver wires at the moment until we see some tangible adjustments.
