Liover Peguero will bat ninth and start at shortstop for the second straight day.
Peguero was called up from the minors on Tuesday following the controversial release of Rowdy Tellez. He has since started two games at shortstop with Isiah Kiner-Falefa moving to third base and Jared Triolo moving to first. We should expect that to be the lineup for the final few games of the season, which gives Peguero some value in deeper formats and means that Billy Cook seems to have lost his starting spot.

Pirates recalled INF Liover Peguero from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Peguero, who spent about half of his age-22 season with the Pirates in 2023, has been a non-factor at age 23. He was up briefly back in June, but he didn’t get into any games then, and he wound up hitting .257.319/.410 with 139 strikeouts in 555 plate appearances for Indianapolis. He’s hardly hopeless yet, but he doesn’t really project as a future regular at this point. The Pirates will likely give him a couple of starts at shortstop this week.
  • PIT Shortstop #31
Pirates optioned INF Liover Peguero to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Peguero was recalled earlier this week with Michael A. Taylor going on the paternity list. Now that Taylor is back, Peguero is on his way back to Triple-A. The 23-year-old infielder could be a bench option again at some point for the Pirates.

Pirates recalled INF Liover Peguero from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Peguero is up with Michael A. Taylor placed on the paternity list. The 23-year-old will be a bench option for the Pirates while Taylor is away for the next three days.

Pirates optioned SS Liover Peguero and LHP Jose Hernandez to Triple-A Indianapolis.
There’s no real path for Peguero to regular at-bats with Oneil Cruz healthy to open the season. The decision to ship Peguero to the minors opens the door for Jared Triolo to open the season as Pittsburgh’s starting second baseman. It’s a bit surprising to see Hernandez jettisoned since he held his own as a Rule 5 pick last year, making 50 relief appearances for the Pirates.
  • PIT Shortstop #60
Liover Peguero hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to power the Pirates past the Blue Jays 6-5 on Tuesday.
Peguero also had a single off the bench today, making him 4-for-12 this spring. Peguero appeared to enter camp as the slight favorite to serve as the Pirates’ second baseman in a competition with Ji Hwan Bae, Jared Triolo and Nick Gonzalez, but that was mostly because of defense; he’s less interesting than Bae or Triolo as a fantasy infielder. The feeling here is that Triolo would be Pittsburgh’s best option, but there’s the chance Peguero will prove adequate.
  • PIT Third Baseman #13
Ke’Bryan Hayes will get the night off on Thursday against the Phillies.
It appears to be just a routine day off for Hayes, who has caught fire in September, hitting .299/.324/.515 with four home runs, 17 runs scored, 10 RBI, and a steal in 23 games this month. Jared Triolo will slide to third base with Alfonso Rivas playing first base. There are other shake-ups in the Pirates lineup with Miguel Andujar starting in right field, and Nick Gonzales at shortstop while Henry Davis and Liover Peguero get a day off.
  • PIT Shortstop #60
Liover Peguero went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs as the Pirates topped the Cardinals in 10 innings on Friday night.
Peguero drew a two-out walk off of Dakota Hudson in the second inning then raced around to score on an RBI double off the bat of Alfonso Rivas. He also led off the 10th inning with a single and came around to score on a wild pitch. With his two-hit effort, the 22-year-old infielder is now hitting .259/.314/.454 with six homers, 20 RBI and four swipes on the season.
  • PIT Shortstop #60
Liover Peguero went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer on Tuesday in the Pirates’ win over the Royals.
Peguero capped off an impressive three-hit effort with a three-run homer off Royals reliever Steven Cruz in the ninth inning to give the Pirates a commanding four-run lead at the time.
  • PIT Shortstop #60
Liover Peguero went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a steal versus the Braves on Thursday.
After taking a nice step forward offensively in the minors, Peguero is hitting .260/.288/.480 with three homers in 53 plate appearances since being called up. The 20/1 K/BB ratio is a good indication that he’s not truly ready just yet, but that’s fine, considering that he’s just 22. He has a chance to turn into a long-term regular at short or second.
