Cardinals placed OF Lars Nootbaar on the 10-day injured list with a left costochondral sprain.
Nootbaar heads to the injured list after exiting two of his last three games with left side discomfort. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch adds that the 27-year-old outfielder has been diagnosed with a sprain where his left rib meets cartilage. It certainly sounds like he’ll require more than just a minimum stay on the injured list to resolve the issue.

Lars Nootbaar was removed from Saturday’s game against Atlanta with left side soreness.
Not great. Nootbaar has been battling through an intercostal/ribs issue for the past few weeks. The 27-year-old outfielder, who finished Saturday’s contest 0-for-2 at the plate, will presumably undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the issue. It’s possible he’ll wind up requiring a trip to the injured list. There should be an update on his status ahead of Sunday’s first-half finale.

Lars Nootbaar is hitting fifth and playing left field against Atlanta on Friday.
Nootbaar was removed from Thursday’s game as a precaution due to rib soreness, but the 27-year-old is good to go against Grant Holmes and the Atlanta bullpen.

Lars Nootbaar went 1-for-2 with a solo homer and a walk against the Nationals on Tuesday.
Nootbaar drew a walk in the second inning, then later took Jake Irvin deep for a solo homer in the sixth to extend the Cardinals’ lead to two runs. The 27-year-old outfielder is slashing .226/.332/.379 with 12 homers, 47 runs scored and 37 RBI across 373 plate appearances.

Lars Nootbaar (intercostal) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Pirates.
Nootbaar is back in left field and batting seventh on Tuesday night after missing a pair of contests due to intercostal soreness in the area of his ribs. The 27-year-old was just starting to really heat up last week, so we’ll see if he can get back on track following the brief two-game layoff.

Lars Nootbaar (intercostal) remains out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Pirates.
Nootbaar has been dealing with some intercostal soreness in the area of his ribs for the past couple days and will open Monday’s contest on the bench for the second straight game. The 27-year-old outfielder was just starting to get into a groove at the plate, so the timing of the issue is frustrating for fantasy managers. It sounds like he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list for now, but that’s hardly a guarantee. It’ll be Brendan Donovan heading out to left field with rookie Thomas Saggese subbing into Monday’s lineup at second base.

Alec Burleson and Lars Nootbaar are on the bench for Sunday’s showdown against the Guardians.
Burleson and Nootbaar take a seat for Sunday afternoon’s matinee with lefty Logan Allen on the mound for Cleveland. It’ll be Brendan Donovan and Garrett Hampson in the corner outfield spots with rookie Thomas Saggese getting an opportunity at the keystone.

Lars Nootbaar (side) is hitting fifth and playing left field against the Cardinals on Friday.
Nootbaar missed a couple of games with an intercostal region issue, but the outfielder is feeling well enough to roam the outfield and hit in the middle of the St. Louis lineup.

Lars Nootbaar is out of the lineup Thursday after receiving an injection to address discomfort in his intercostal region.
Nice to have some explanation for him being absent on consecutive days. Nootbaar is expected to be ready to play on Friday.

Lars Nootbaar remains on the bench on Thursday against the Cubs
With the Cubs starting left-hander Shota Imanaga, Nootbaar will not be in the starting lineup. This is now the third straight game against a lefty where Nootbaar has been on the bench. With Thomas Saggese now on the active roster, the Cardinals can start him at second base against lefties and move Brendan Donovan to left field. A strong side platoon role would further diminish Nootbaar’s fantasy value in a year that has not quite gone according to plans.
