Cormier

Cormier will take Horacio Ramirez’s spot in the rotation. Ramirez is likely done for the season due to a torn ligament in his finger. Cormier was 0-2 with a 6.52 ERA in two earlier starts for the Braves, but he just recently threw a complete game shutout for Richmond. He shouldn’t have much fantasy value.

The Braves didn’t have enough notice to set up Chuck James for the start today, but they would have been better off throwing some generic left-hander against Boston. With seven hits and three walks allowed, Cormier was lucky to come out of the outing as well as he did. He shouldn’t make any additional starts.

Cormier will start Saturday in place of Horacio Ramirez, which might help the Red Sox break out of their slump. The right-hander had a 6.10 ERA and a 9/17 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings for the Braves before being sent down last month. His ERA in two starts at Richmond was 5.40.

Cormier turned in a solid outing Sunday, allowing three runs in six innings against the Marlins, but the Braves have still lost all four of his starts this season. Kyle Davies will eventually take the rotation spot that this opens up, though he might get one more rehab start first.

Cormier will get a start next week, but since Kyle Davies is due back, he might join the pen after that. He shouldn’t have any fantasy value.

He gave up five runs -- three earned -- and eight hits in 4 2/3 innings with four Ks and a pair of walks. Hampered by injuries to their rotation, the Braves are desperate for starting pitching, but Cormier is clearly not the answer.

Baez underwent an emergency appendectomy and is expected to miss two to three weeks. Cormier has pitched as a starter and out of the bullpen this season.

Cormier has a 6.12 ERA and a 2.01 WHIP in two starts and 19 relief appearances for the Braves. Triple-A is clearly the best place for him.
