Twins declined INF Kyle Farmer’s 2025 option, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Farmer will receive $250K as part of a buyout and is now a free agent. Injuries limited the utility man to 107 games in 2024. He hit .214 with five home runs and 25 RBI last year. Farmer on a $6.5 million salary was simply a luxury the Twins couldn’t afford. He’s likely to catch on with another team given his positional versatility and track record against left-handed pitching (career .812 OPS vs. LHP).
  • MIN Right Fielder #38
Matt Wallner, Trevor Larnach, and Edouard Julien are all on the bench on Monday against the Guardians.
With the Guardians starting left-hander Matthew Boyd, the Twins will sit all of their left-handed hitters. Manuel Margot will start in right field, Ryan Jeffers will start at DH, and Kyle Farmer will start at second base.
  • MIN Third Baseman #12
Kyle Farmer went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, two runs scored, and a walk in the Twins’ 10-5 win over the Angels on Tuesday.
Farmer took Griffin Canning deep in the second inning for a three-run blast to start a big offensive day for Minnesota. He followed with a single in the fourth, then drew a walk in the sixth and scored on a double by Matt Wallner. The 34-year-old infielder is slashing .212/.296/.363 with five homers and 25 RBI across 203 plate appearances.
  • MIN Third Baseman #12
Kyle Farmer homered in a loss Monday to the Angels.
Farmer is not known for his power, but the 34-year-old veteran hit his fourth of the season with a solo shot off an otherwise-effective Reid Detmers. He’s provided the Twins with versatility and his defensive acumen, but that doesn’t help fantasy managers who would have to roster a .205/.286/.341 hitter.
  • MIN Third Baseman #12
Twins activated INF Kyle Farmer from the 10-day injured list.
Farmer is back after missing a month with a shoulder strain. With Carlos Correa and Brooks Lee on the IL, he should see a fair amount of playing time in the short term. He needs to be better than he was before going on the IL, though; he’s hit just .189/.291/.265 in 151 plate appearances this season.
  • MIN Third Baseman #12
Kyle Farmer (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A St. Paul.
Farmer has been out since mid-July recovering from a right shoulder strain. The 33-year-old has been a non-factor this season for fantasy purposes as a bench option for Minnesota.
  • MIN Third Baseman #12
Twins placed INF Kyle Farmer on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.
Farmer is hitting .189 with no home runs and 15 RBI in 63 games with the Twins. Minnesota opted to call up catcher Jair Camargo and carry three catchers on the roster in the last days before the all-star break.
  • MIN Second Baseman #82
Austin Martin is starting at second base for the Twins on Thursday with Willi Castro on the bench.
Martin has now started four straight games and five of six since being promoted from Triple-A. Martin is 7-for-15 in those five games with four runs, two RBI, and a steal. If the Twins continue to move him all over the field and keep him in the starting lineup then Martin could produce enough value to be rostered in deeper formats. Kyle Farmer will play up the middle with Martin at shortstop with Carlos Correa getting a day off.
  • MIN Second Baseman #47
Edouard Julien, Max Kepler, Trevor Larnach and Alex Kirilloff are not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Astros.
No surprises here as Minnesota continues rotating their quartet of left-handed bats in and out of the lineup depending on matchups. It’ll be Carlos Santana, Manuel Margot, Kyle Farmer and Ryan Jeffers getting the nod to face Astros southpaw Framber Valdez.
  • MIN Right Fielder #9
Trevor Larnach remains in the lineup for the Twins even with Max Kepler back. He’ll hit third and play left field.
Larnach is 4-for-14 since being called up with one home run and three RBI. It’s just one lineup, but it appears that Minnesota will give him a chance to continue playing versus right-handed pitching and it might be Kyle Farmer who loses playing time. The rest of the lineup is: Alex Kirilloff 1B, Edouard Julien 2B, Trevor Larnach LF, Ryan Jeffers C, Max Kepler RF, Willi Castro SS, Carlos Santana DH, Jose Miranda 3B, Austin Martin CF.
