Rockies manager Bud Black told reporters Saturday that Kris Bryant (back) is “questionable” to play again in 2024.
It’s football season, after all. Black said that Bryant is feeling better, but that the team is running out of time for the 32-year-old former MVP to return to the field. With the Rockies not playing for anything but a higher draft pick, it seems likely we’ve seen the last of Bryant on the field in 2024.

Rockies placed OF Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 11, with a strained back.
13, 11 and 13 games. That’s how long Bryant’s body has been able to hold up in between stints on the injured list this season. When he has been able to play, he’s hit .218 with two homers and 48 strikeouts in 133 plate appearances. It’s just brutal, and he isn’t yet even halfway through his seven-year contract.

The Rockies are placing Kris Bryant on the IL with a back strain and calling up Jordan Beck, according to MLB.com’s Thomas Harding.
We don’t doubt Harding’s report, but while the Rockies have made two pitching moves official, they haven’t posted this transaction yet. Assuming it’s true, Bryant will have played 13 games in between IL stints, matching his season high.
  • COL First Baseman #23
Kris Bryant returned to the Rockies lineup and went 0-for-3 with a sac fly on Tuesday.
Bryant sat out two games over the weekend, apparently because he was hit in the ribs by a pitch Friday. We say apparently because the Rockies never really confirmed it one way or the other.
  • COL Left Fielder #23
Rockies activated INF/OF Kris Bryant from the 10-day injured list.
Bryant is in right field and batting fifth on Tuesday night in his return to Colorado’s lineup following a seven-week absence due to rib and oblique issues. The 32-year-old veteran has been limited to just 24 games this season due to various physical issues and has been a complete non-factor for fantasy managers. His career has gone completely sideways since signing with the Rockies prior to the 2022 season and it’s fair to wonder if his days as an impact fantasy contributor are over for good.
  • COL Third Baseman #23
Kris Bryant (rib, oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
The 32-year-old slugger has dealt with a wide array of injuries this season, but it’s been rib and oblique issues that have shelved him this time around since early June. He has proven to be an elite fantasy contributor in the past, but he’s extremely unlikely to reach those heights again — even while calling Coors Field home. Tread lightly if choosing to take another shot on Bryant in-between stints on the injured list.
  • COL Third Baseman #23
Rockies’ manager Bud Black told reporters on Saturday that in addition to the rib injury that landed him on the injured list, Kris Bryant is also dealing with an oblique strain.
The 32-year-old slugger already didn’t have a timeline for his potential return, but now it’ll be substantially longer before he’s cleared to return. Bryant has hit a pitiful .106/.143/.362 with four homers, eight RBI and a 20/1 K/BB ratio across 49 plate appearances with the Rockies this season.
  • COL First Baseman #4
Rockies recalled INF/OF Michael Togilia from Triple-A Albuquerque.
The 25-year-old got a chance earlier in the season thanks to a Kris Bryant injury and it looks like he’ll get another one here. He has hit .106/.143/.362 with four homers, eight RBI, and a 20/1 K/BB ratio in 49 plate appearances and should not be on fantasy radars.
  • COL First Baseman #23
Rockies placed INF/OF Kris Bryant on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 3, with a left rib contusion.
Bryant has had just 101 plate appearances this season and is slashing .186/.307/.279 with just two homers and 10 RBI. What injuries have done to the 32-year-old’s career is tough to see. There is likely no fantasy value here. Michael Toglai was called up in a corresponding move.
  • COL First Baseman #23
Kris Bryant is expected to be placed on the injured list prior to Thursday’s series opener against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
The 32-year-old slugger missed his third consecutive game on Wednesday due to soreness in his rib that he suffered while making a twisting catch against the Dodgers over the weekend — and he did not respond to treatment that was done on Wednesday. The oft-injured outfielder is hitting an abysmal .186/.307/.279 with just two homers and 10 RBI in 101 plate appearances on the season. Even in deeper fantasy leagues, it’s time to cut bait if you haven’t already done so.
