The Phillies will start Taijuan Walker over Kolby Allard against the Mets on Thursday.
One encouraging outing was all it took. Walker had a great day in relief of Allard on Saturday, throwing three scoreless innings in what turned into a 6-4 win over the Mets. It’ll be his first start since he was dropped from the rotation with a 3-6 record and a 6.50 ERA at the end of August. He’s since allowed four earned runs and struck out two in eight innings as a reliever.

Kolby Allard was charged for four runs in three innings in a no-decision versus the Mets on Saturday.
Allard gave up a two-run triple to Starling Marte in the third and two more runs in the first. The left-hander was called up for the start Saturday in hopes he could give them more than Tyler Phillips and Seth Johnson have, and it was more of the same. It remains to be seen whether Allard will get another chance to pitch in the rotation.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #49
Phillies recalled LHP Kolby Allard from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Allard is coming up to start Saturday’s game against the Mets. He has a 3.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 13 strikeouts in 18 innings over four appearances (three starts) for the Phillies this year. Allard could finish out the year as the fifth starter depending on how he pitches on Saturday.

The Phillies will likely bring up Kolby Allard to start Saturday against the Mets.
Allard seemed to be the likely choice with both Tyler Phillips and Seth Johnson flopping in their auditions. Allard has a 3.50 ERA in three starts and one relief appearance for the Phillies this season. He could finish out the year in the rotation.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #48
Phillies optioned RHP Tyler Phillips to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Phillips was supposed to stay in the rotation for more than one turn, but he was so bad in getting knocked out in the first inning by the Blue Jays last night that he’s heading back to Triple-A now. Kolby Allard might get another shot in that spot this weekend.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #60
Phillies recalled RHP Max Lazard from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Lazar had been up with the Phillies up until last week when he was optioned so that Kolby Allard could start Sunday’s game. Now Lazar will come back up and fill a role in the Phillies’ bullpen after allowing just one run in six appearances so far this season.

Phillies optioned LHP Kolby Allard to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Allard filled in as a spot starter on Sunday, allowing two runs in five innings against the Royals. He’ll now head back to the minors until the Phillies need another starter or perhaps as a multi-inning reliever once rosters expand in September. Max Lazar was called up to take his place.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #49
Kolby Allard moved to 2-0 after allowing two runs in five innings Sunday against the Royals.
The homers came on solo shots from Bobby Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia. Allard allowed six other hits, including a pair of doubles, but none did any damage. Allard has a nice 3.50 ERA in three starts and one relief appearance for the Phillies, but he’s probably about to lose his spot with Ranger Suárez returning.

Phillies recalled LHP Kolby Allard from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Allard is up to make a spot start Sunday against the Royals with Phillies manager Rob Thomson wanting to give the rotation an extra day of rest. The left-hander has held his own in his three previous appearances — two of them starts — but would be a risky streaming option that doesn’t offer a high potential reward.

Kolby Allard will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make a spot start against the Royals on Sunday.
Phillies’ skipper Rob Thomson told reporters on Saturday that he wants to give the rest of the members of his rotation an extra day of rest, which is why Allard is getting the call. The 27-year-old southpaw holds a 3.46 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and an 8/2 K/BB ratio over 13 innings in three appearances (two starts) at the big-league level this season.
