  • DET Starting Pitcher #54
Keider Montero tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings and got a no-decision in the Tigers’ 1-0 victory over the Guardians on Monday.
Montero gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four. Montero had a quality start and beat the Twins in his last start, which makes this his second good start in a row. He’s now the clear choice over Matt Manning to be the Tigers’ fill-in starter. With Casey Mize on the injured list, he should continue to get opportunities. Montero has some appeal in AL-Only leagues, but he’s probably best left on the bench against the Dodgers this weekend.

Keider Montero earned the first victory of his MLB career on Wednesday, limiting the Twins to two runs on six hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.
The 23-year-old hurler punched out four batters on the night while allowing just one base on balls. He served up a solo homer to Christian Vazquez in the third inning then kept the Twins’ offense at bay until Brooks Lee delivered an RBI single in the seventh. Montero got eight swings and misses on 80 pitches on the evening — five on his slider — while posting a CSW of 33 percent. He’ll attempt to further improve upon his 6.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 15/5 K/BB ratio (15 innings) when he does battle against the Guardians next week.

Tigers recalled RHP Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo.
The 23-year-old right-hander will take the place of the injured Casey Mize (hamstring) in the team’s rotation. He’ll start on Wednesday night against the Twins. Montero has already made two appearances with the Tigers this season, registering a 9.35 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and an 11/4 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings. He shouldn’t be considered as a streaming option on Wednesday night against the high-powered Twins’ offense.

Keider Montero is likely to take the place of Casey Mize (hamstring) in the rotation.
Jason Beck of MLB.com reports that Montero is traveling with the team to Minnesota, so that just about confirms it. Mize is currently dealing with hamstring troubles, and is expected to be placed on the 15-day injured list. Montero hasn’t had success as an MLB hurler yet, but the 23-year-old has quality stuff and could be an interesting streamer when facing less-than-spectacular lineups.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #54
Tigers optioned RHP Keider Moreno to Triple-A Toledo.
Moreno heads back to the minors after surrendering five runs over 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Phillies. The 23-year-old righty has struggled at the highest level, but he’s flashed an ability to miss bats with his slider in the big leagues.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #54
Keider Montero was hit hard in a losing effort against the Phillies on Wednesday afternoon, giving up five runs on five hits over his 4 1/3 innings of work.
The 23-year-old hurler walked three while racking up six strikeouts on the afternoon. Brandon Marsh did most of the damage against him, crushing a two-run homer in the fourth inning and adding a two-run single in the fifth. It wasn’t all bat for Montero though, as he generated a whopping 18 swings and misses on 94 pitches on the afternoon — nine of those on his slider — while registering a CSW of 28 percent. It’s highly likely that Montero will head back to Triple-A Toledo following this spot start.

Tigers recalled RHP Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo.
The Tigers are bypassing him in favor of an opener, but Montero will make his second big-league appearance Wednesday against the Phillies. He gave up four runs over 4 1/3 innings against the Pirates in his debut four weeks ago.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #67
Tigers recalled LHP Easton Lucas from Triple-A Toledo.
Lucas will have a chance to make his Detroit debut after being claimed off waivers from the Athletics in May. The left-hander may have a short stint in Detroit, as the team is expected to recall Keider Montero to start Wednesday’s game.

Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports that the Tigers will likely start Keider Montero on Wednesday against the Phillies.
Montero, 23, is with the Tigers and has a locker, so a roster move is very likely coming. As Stavenhagen notes, Detroit has a “TBD” listed as their current starter for Wednesday’s game, but the right-hander likely will take that spot. He would be a very risky streaming option against Philadelphia, and the reward doesn’t match that risk. Mason Englert is likely the arm that heads down in the corresponding move.

Keider Montero was hit hard in his big league debut on Wednesday, giving up four runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Pirates.
The 23-year-old right-hander racked up five strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing a pair of free passes. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball, as Andrew McCutchen crushed a three-run homer in the third inning and Nick Gonzales added a solo shot in the fourth. Montero got 10 swings and misses on 87 pitches on the day — five of those on his slider — while posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll return to Triple-A Toledo where he’ll continue to function as excess pitching depth for the Tigers.
