Phillies OF prospect Justin Crawford went 3-for-4 with a stolen base on Friday for Double-A Reading.
Crawford made an immediate impact in his first Double-A contest after posting a .787 OPS with six homers and 27 steals in 70 games for High-A Jersey Shore to open the year. The 20-year-old speedster is going to make an impact in the stolen base department once he reaches the big leagues, but there are enough questions with the rest of his profile to limit his realistic fantasy upside at the moment. He’s got plenty of time to improve and is certainly worth monitoring over the next few months.
  • WAS Center Fielder #3
Nationals OF prospect Dylan Crews is in right field and batting second for the National League during Saturday’s All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field.
There are some lingering questions marks for Crews in the hard contact department, but the second-overall selection from the loaded 2023 MLB Draft has been excellent this season in the upper minors, batting .267/.331/.433 with eight homers and 20 thefts in 71 games between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester. He figures to arrive in the big leagues at some point following the All-Star break. We could spend hours discussing the rest of this fascinating assortment of prospects that includes some of the fastest-rising names in fantasy circles. Here’s the rest of the senior circuit’s lineup: Justin Crawford LF, Crews RF, Termarr Johnson 2B, Bryce Eldridge 1B, Ethan Salas C, Druw Jones CF, Cam Collier 3B, Aidan Miller SS and Drake Baldwin DH.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #74
Phillies RHP prospect Mick Abel will start for the National League on Saturday in the 2023 MLB All-Star Futures Game.
Abel draws the starting assignment on Saturday in Seattle with an absolutely stacked senior circuit batting order providing support. Here’s the full lineup: Pete Crow-Armstrong (CHC) CF, Jordan Lawlar (AZ) SS, Jackson Chourio (MIL) LF, James Wood (WSH), Noelvi Marte (CIN) 3B, Endy Rodríguez (PIT) 1B, Jefferson Quero (MIL) C, Ryan Bliss (AZ) 2B and Justin Crawford (PHI) DH.
  • PIT Catcher #25
Pirates C prospect Endy Rodríguez has been selected to the 2023 All-Star Futures Game in Seattle.
Rodríguez is joined by Giants LHP prospect Kyle Harrison and Phillies OF prospect Justin Crawford to represent the senior circuit next month in Seattle. The rest of the selections will be revealed later this evening. The 23-year-old top catching prospect has batted .248/.332/.389 with five homers and four steals across 259 plate appearances this season for Triple-A Indianapolis.

Phillies signed first-round pick OF Justin Crawford.
Jim Callis of MLB.com says that Crawford’s signing bonus will be $3.8948 million, which is exactly $100,000 more than the assigned slot value for the No. 17 overall pick of $3.7948 million. Carl’s son was taken from the high school ranks and figures to take a while to develop, but he’s an interesting talent.

Phillies selected Bishop Gorman HS (NV) OF Justin Crawford with the 17th pick of the 2022 MLB Draft.
Crawford is the son of former All-Star outfielder Carl Crawford. While not quite as fast as his dad, speed is the 18-year-old’s best tool, with a chance to be a major factor in stolen bases if he can get on enough to attempt them. He should be able to do that as he’s a left-handed hitter who makes hard contact all over the field, and an acumen that suggests he should be able to work count. His swing is not conducive to power, but he should have a chance to drive the baseball more with some swing changes. Crawford is a solid “real-life” prospect, but the chance to steal bases makes him even more intriguing for fantasy formats.
