Berg underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery earlier this month and will miss all of 2012. The 27-year-old pitched only 12 big league innings this season.

Berg, 27, appeared in eight games with the Cubs earlier this season, posting a 3.75 ERA and 6/6 K/BB ratio over 12 innings. He will likely be sidelined until late-2012 or 2013.

Berg was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week. The 27-year-old right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery last month and will miss the entire 2012 season.

Berg had a 6.68 ERA in 31 innings of relief this past season in the Cubs’ system. It would be a surprise to see him get a chance next year in the Rockies’ bullpen.

This is overdue. Berg not only had a 6.43 ERA in 14 appearances, but he had struck out just three and walked 10 in his 14 innings.

Well isn’t that a gip. The 25-year-old Berg didn’t get a chance to make his first big-league appearance after being recalled on July 25. He was sent down in order to make room for Tuesday’s starter Ryan Dempster.

Originally drafted by the Yankees in 2003, Berg was acquired for Matt Lawton in 2005. 25, Berg has pitched in 24 games in relief on the year, chalking up a 2.00 ERA in 36 innings, walking 19 and striking out 20. The ERA is nice, but the K/BB ratio is not. His success has come from limiting the number of hits allowed against him. If he gets off to a good start, he’ll stick until Ted Lilly returns.

Berg allowed two hits in two innings of relief with the Cubs and is likely to rejoin the team on September 1, when rosters expand. He’s 6-1 with a 2.33 ERA in 46 innings out of Iowa’s bullpen.

Berg, 25, tossed two scoreless innings against the Phillies back on August 13. He was 6-2 with a 2.43 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 37 games with Triple-A Iowa. He should slide into a middle relief role in skipper Lou Pinella’s pen.

Berg, 25, did not make an appearance during a three-day stay in the majors in late July. He’s 6-1 with a 2.33 ERA in 46 innings out of Iowa’s bullpen.
