Tigers re-signed C Julio E. Rodriguez to a minor league contract.
The 26-year-old backstop spent the 2023 campaign at Double-A Erie where he slashed .223/.311/.427 with 16 homers, 46 RBI and an 85/30 K/BB ratio over 296 plate appearances. He’ll continue to function as extra catching depth for the Tigers.
  • DET Third Baseman #44
Tigers reassigned INF’s Justyn-Henry Malloy and Colt Keith, RHP Elvis Alvarado, LHP Adam Wolf, C’s Dillon Dingler and Julio Rodriguez to minor league camp.
Malloy, who was acquired from the Braves in an offseason trade centered around reliever Joe Jiménez, is the most prominent inclusion among the first round of cuts from Tigers’ camp this spring.

Tigers signed C Julio E. Rodriguez to a minor league contract.
Rodriguez spent the previous six seasons in the Cardinals minor league system and will head to the Tigers to serve as organizational catching depth. The 25-year-old backstop batted .252/.387/.436 with 11 homers and two steals in 269 plate appearances over 60 games last year for Double-A Springfield.

  • FA Relief Pitcher #61
Cardinals optioned RHP Jake Walsh to Triple-A Memphis; reassigned INF/OF Cory Spangenberg, LHP Connor Thomas, C Julio Rodriguez to minor league camp.
Walsh was added to the Cardinals’ 40-man roster last November, but failed to make the team’s Opening Day roster in a relief role. Spangenberg is the other notable inclusion here as he’ll head to Triple-A Memphis to get some at-bats in before being an option at some point later this season.
