Yankees avoided arbitration with RHP JT Brubaker by agreeing to a one-year contract.
No word yet on the financial details of the pact, but Brubaker had been projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $2.275 million via arbitration. The 31-year-old hurler was shut down in July with an oblique issue that ultimately sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Brubaker hasn’t pitched in a game at the big-league level since the 2022 season.

JT Brubaker (oblique) has been shut down from throwing for the next 3-4 weeks.
It’s an unfortunate setback for Brubaker as he’ll be completely shut down from throwing until at least mid-to-late August, which doesn’t leave him a ton of time to ramp up for a late-season return. The 30-year-old righty, who was acquired back in late March from the Pirates in a small trade, is working his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery and figures to pitch in relief once he’s ready to make his Yankees debut.

JT Brubaker (elbow) will be shut down from throwing while dealing with an oblique issue.
Brubaker is currently on a rehab assignment as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery, and picked up the injury while making a fielding attempt. Yankees manager Aaron Boone offered no timetable, only saying he’d be shut down. Brubaker has an outside shot of helping the New York pitching staff at some point in 2024.

Yankees acquired RHP JT Brubaker from the Pirates for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
The 30-year-old right-hander is currently on the 60-day injured list as he works his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and won’t be available to pitch until May at the earliest. Because he’s stashed on the 60-day injured list and will remain there with the Yankees, they didn’t have to free up a spot on their 40-man roster to make the acquisition. He could wind up being an intriguing bullpen option for the Yankees during the second half of the season.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #34
Pirates placed RHP JT Brubaker on the 60-day injured list.
Brubaker will miss at least the first half of the upcoming season recovering from last April’s Tommy John surgery. The procedural move opened up a spot on Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster to get outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba back off waivers from the Mariners.

Pirates and RHP JT Brubaker avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.275 million contract.
Brubaker will miss the at least the opening stages, if not most, of the 2024 campaign while rehabbing from last April’s Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old righty was a key component of Pittsburgh’s starting rotation the last few years, but could wind up pitching in relief moving forward.
  • PIT Shortstop #15
Pirates activated INF Oneil Cruz and RHP JT Brubaker from the 60-day injured list.
The 25-year-old sensation missed most of the 2023 season after fracturing his fibula in a collision at home plate in early April. There had been some hope that he would return in late September but was ultimately shut down before then. He should be fully recovered and ready to go by the time spring training rolls around.

JT Brubaker underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on Wednesday.
The Pirates’ official timeline has Brubaker sidelined for 14-16 months, which puts his return sometime in the middle of the 2024 campaign, after undergoing surgery to reconstruct the UCL in his right elbow.

JT Brubaker is seeking a second opinion on his injured right elbow.
The expectation is that Brubaker will require Tommy John surgery, but generally most pitchers want to get a second opinion just to confirm that diagnosis before undergoing the procedure. It’s likely that he’ll miss the entire 2023 season -- and the first half of the 2024 campaign -- while recovering from the procedure.

Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports JT Brubaker may wind up undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Brubaker was transferred to the 60-day injured list over the weekend with right elbow/forearm discomfort and the Pirates have yet to release an official diagnosis. Mackey’s source says that Tommy John surgery is one of the options being considered. Regardless of the final decision, Brubaker is going to be sidelined for a significant portion of the 2023 campaign, if not longer.
