White Sox designated RHP Josimar Cousin for assignment.
Cousin finds himself caught up in a roster crunch and loses his spot on Chicago’s 40-man. The 26-year-old righty has yet to pitch in the big leagues and figures to pass through waivers unclaimed.

Wbite Sox optioned OF Oscar Colás, RHP Davis Martin, LHP Sammy Peralta and INF José Rodriguez to Triple-A Charlotte; optioned LHP Jake Eder and RHP Josimar Cousin to Double-A Birmingham; reassigned Cs Edgar Quero and Adam Hackenburg, RHPs Edgar Navarro and Lane Ramsey, and LHPs Ky Bush and Fraser Ellard to minor league camp.
No real surprises here as Colás figured to be edged out of contention for an Opening Day roster spot after an influx of talent during the offseason. Meanwhile, Quero and Bush represent a pair of top prospects on the verge of making it to the big leagues relatively soon. It’s a bit surprising to see Eder heading back to Double-A, but he’ll get plenty of innings there to open the year.

White Sox selected the contract of RHP Josimar Cousin from Double-A Birmingham.
This seems very oddly timed, but perhaps it was in Cousin’s contract that the White Sox needed to add the Cuban defector to the 40-man this winter after he signed in May. Cousin, 25, had a 5.56 ERA in 55 innings over 15 starts in his pro debut. The majority of those starts came in high-A ball. He also had an 8.62 ERA in 15 2/3 innings during the Arizona Fall League. It’s unlikely that he’ll be of much help to the major league club in 2024.
