Diamondbacks and 1B Josh Naylor avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $10.9 million contract.
This will be Naylor’s first season in Arizona and last season before free agency. He was at his best in hitting .308/.354/.489 in 2023, but because he drove in 108 runs while hitting a far less impressive .243/.320/.456 last season, he’s still getting a $4.4 million raise here.

Diamondbacks acquired INF Josh Naylor for RHP Slade Cecconi and a Competitive Balance Round B selection.
Naylor will take over for Christian Walker with Walker leaving the D-Backs for the Astros. The 27-year-old forged a .776 OPS while homering 31 times for Cleveland last year, and he should hit in the middle of a talented Arizona lineup which will provide plenty of chances for run production. He’s not an elite fantasy option at the not-so-hot corner, but he does offer a high floor because of the pop.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Diamondbacks are closing in on a trade for Josh Naylor.
Jeff Passan of ESPN notes that the Guardians will receive Slade Cecconi and a Competitive Balance selection that is currently slated to be the 72nd pick in return. The Diamondbacks lost Christian Walker in free agency to the Astros, and it appears they’ll go the trade route for their replacement. Naylor has been the subject of trade rumors to the Mariners and a few other clubs after the 27-year-old hit 31 homers in 2024 with a .776 OPS. Naylor would likely be in the middle of the Arizona lineup, and would be a solid — if unspectacular — fantasy option.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported that “Josh Naylor has been mentioned in trade talks between the Guardians and Mariners.”
The Mariners have also approached the Red Sox about trading for Triston Casas, so they appear to be serious about upgrading at first base this off-season. For the Guardians, trading Naylor makes sense if they are getting a big enough return. The 27-year-old is set to be an unrestricted free agent after this season and may be out of Cleveland’s price range. The team could look to trade him now when they are likely to get more in return than if they waited for the trade deadline. With Kyle Manzardo on the roster, the team also has a built-in replacement at first base, so this is a situation that’s worth monitoring.

According to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds have checked in with the Guardians on Josh Naylor and Lane Thomas.
There had been reports over the past week that the Guardians were willing to listen to offers on both of those hitters, so it’s not surprising to hear that teams would be calling to see what the asking price is. The Reds are known to be in the market for help in the outfield, so Thomas would probably make the most sense, though it doesn’t sound as if there has been anything more than exploratory discussions at this stage.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that the Guardians are open to trading away Josh Naylor and/or Lane Thomas this off-season.
While the Guardians may not be actively looking to trade them, both players are entering the final seasons on their contracts and both are expecting to earn $9 million a year or more on their next deals. That might be too steep of a price for the Guardians to play, so “it should surprise no one that Cleveland is open to trade offers.” Given how close the Guardians were to the World Series in 2024, we would expect they would need to be blown away to accept any trade offer, but the possibility does exist.

Josh Naylor went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two solo home runs against the Twins on Wednesday.
Naylor now has 31 home runs on the year. He hit two solo shots off Bailey Ober with one coming in the second inning and the other in the seventh inning. Naylor had one home run in his last 22 games entering play Wednesday. He’s hitting .245 with a .789 OPS and 105 RBI on the year.

Josh Naylor is back in the Guardians lineup for Friday’s game against the Dodgers.
Naylor got Wednesday off after leaving Tuesday’s game with back spasms. He’s playing first base tonight.
  • CLE First Baseman #22
Josh Naylor (back) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s bout against the Royals.
Naylor will get a day off even with a righty in the mound, as he had to be removed from Tuesday’s game with back spasms. Kyle Manzardo will get the start at first base while David Fry is the designated hitter. Naylor should be considered day-to-day.

Josh Naylor went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a stolen base against the Royals on Monday.
Naylor’s home run was his 29th and the stolen base was his sixth. He hit a two-run shot off Kris Bubic in the sixth inning. Naylor has six home runs and 23 RBI in his last 28 games. He’s hitting .245 with an .800 OPS and 100 RBI on the year. While his power has carried over from last year, his average is down significantly after he hit .308 last year.
