Josh Harrison has retired from professional baseball after 13 seasons.
Harrison, who made the official announcement on his personal X account, hangs up his cleats after a 13-year career that spanned 1,208 games since 2011 and included stints with the Pirates, Nationals, White Sox, Athletics, Phillies and Tigers. The 37-year-old was a two-time All-Star Game selection. He was in camp last year with the Reds, but didn’t make the club’s season-opening roster, and didn’t play professionally last season.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said DJ LeMahieu (foot) has a “pretty significant bone bruise” and his status for Opening Day is uncertain.
Welp, more injuries for the Yankees as they head into the homestretch of spring training. Boone didn’t rule the 35-year-old third baseman out completely for Opening Day, but the team will monitor how he is feeling in the coming days. Third base is definitely a position that lacks depth in New York. Oswaldo Cabrera played 15 games at third base last season, but he’s more likely to be in the outfield if he’s going to be used defensively. Josh Harrison, who just recently opted for free agency, could be an option for the Yankees if they look for more infield depth.

Infielder Josh Harrison has opted for free agency.
After being informed he wouldn’t be on the Reds’ Opening Day roster, Harrison decided he would rather test the waters in free agency than go to Cincinnati’s minor league system. The veteran was always a longshot to break the Reds’ crowded infield depth chart, and he hit just 5-for-20 this spring with two doubles and one steal. There’s a chance another team will value his defensive versatility and give him a shot.
  • CIN 2nd Baseman #2
Reds signed INF Josh Harrison to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The non-roster deal will allow Harrison to come to spring training and compete for a spot in the Reds organization. As a Cincinnati native, it seems Harrison is hopeful to finish his career with his hometown team. The soon-to-be 37-year-old hit just 6-for-27 (.222) with a homer over six games with the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate in 2023. If he does make the team, it figures to be as organizational depth due to his positional versatility.

Josh Harrison has elected to become a free agent.
Harrison opted out of his minor league contract with the Rangers after signing with the club earlier this month. The 36-year-old went 6-for-27 (.222) with a homer over six games with the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate.
  • TEX 2nd Baseman #2
Rangers signed INF Josh Harrison to a minor league contract.
Harrison provides the Rangers with some experienced infield depth with All-Star third baseman Josh Jung sidelined until late September after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured left thumb. The versatile 36-year-old veteran was released by the Phillies earlier this month after registering a .554 OPS with two homers in 40 games.

    Phillies released INF Josh Harrison.
Presumably no team was willing to pick up the remaining portion of Harrison’s $2 million salary, so he’s been granted his release to pursue a new opportunity. The 36-year-old veteran infielder was designated for assignment earlier this week after posting a .554 OPS with two homers in 40 games this season.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman #2
Phillies designated INF Josh Harrison for assignment.
The Phillies needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster after Friday’s acquisition of Michael Lorenzen, and unfortunately Harrison was left holding the short straw this time around. The 36-year-old utilityman was hitting just .204/.263/.291 with two homers and 10 RBI in 114 plate appearances on the season.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman #5
Bryson Stott is not in the Phillies’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Pirates.
Stott hasn’t missed a game since July 15, but he will get a well-deserved day of rest on Sunday. The 25-year-old has vastly improved in his second season in the majors and he is hitting .306/.347/.438 with nine homers and 19 stolen bases across 418 plate appearances. Josh Harrison will play second base and bat seventh in his place.
  • PHI Outfield #84
Johan Rojas is in center field and batting ninth on Monday against the Orioles.
Rojas is making his first start for the Phillies since July 16. The 24-year-old top prospect is 3-for-11 with two RBI and one stolen base in five games since being called up shortly after the All-Star break. Jake Cave is at first base and Josh Harrison is at the hot corner for Monday’s series opener.
