  • WAS Shortstop #8
José Tena went 3-for-4 with a run scored against the Cubs on Saturday.
Tena continues his strong showing with the Nationals this season, adding three hits against the Cubs on Saturday. He knocked a base hit in the second and fourth innings, then reached once more with a hit in the sixth before scoring on a three-run homer by Joey Gallo. The 23-year-old infielder is hitting .297/.326/.399 with three homers, 15 RBI, and six steals across 144 plate appearances.
  • WAS Second Baseman #2
Luis Garcia (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Mets.
Garcia Jr. was removed Tuesday with wrist discomfort, and unsurprisingly the 24-year-old will not be back in the lineup a day later. Josa Tena will start at second base in Garcia’s place.
  • WAS Shortstop #8
José Tena went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in a 4-1 win over the Marlins on Saturday.
Tena knocked a base hit to lead off the fourth inning and stole second before scoring on a base hit by Keibert Ruiz. He later took Valente Bellozo deep for a solo homer in the sixth. The 23-year-old third baseman has been solid in his limited time with the Nationals, slashing .306/.342/.434 with three homers and five steals across 117 plate appearances.
  • WAS Shortstop #8
José Tena went 2-for-4 with two doubles in a loss to the Braves.
Tena has been solid since coming over to the Nationals at the trade deadline, going 29-for-92 (.315) with two home runs, nine runs, 10 RBI, and two steals in 24 games. The poor lineup around him has limited some of the counting stat value, but Tena is an everyday player who is producing a good batting average, so he carries fantasy value in deeper formats.
  • WAS Shortstop #8
José Tena went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Tuesday, leading the Nationals to a 4-2 victory over the Yankees.
Tena connected for a 405-foot blast against Yankees ace Gerrit Cole in the sixth inning for his second big league homer. The 23-year-old rookie, who came over from the Guardians at last month’s trade deadline, has been a revelation so far, batting .340 (16-for-47) with two homers, 10 RBI and one steals in 13 games for the Nationals.
  • WAS Shortstop #8
Jose Tena went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Braves on Saturday.
Tena’s home run was the first of his career. He hit a two-run shot off Charlie Morton in the second inning. Acquired from the Guardians in the deal for Lane Thomas prior to this year’s trade deadline, Tena is hitting .359 with a home run, six RBI and a steal in 39 at-bats for Washington. The power and speed he showed at Triple-A this year (18 homers and 15 steals) seems to be translating to the major league level making him an interesting pickup in deeper formats.
  • WAS Shortstop #8
José Tena (thumb) is back in the lineup for Thursday’s showdown against the Phillies.
Tena is back at third base and batting eighth following a two-game absence due to a right thumbnail injury that he suffered earlier this week. The 23-year-old infielder is batting .400 (2-for-5) with a pair of RBI in two games for the Nationals since coming over from the Guardians at last month’s trade deadline. He figures to get some extended runway at the hot corner for Washington over the final few weeks of the regular season.
  • WAS Shortstop #8
José Tena (thumb) is absent from the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Orioles.
Tena remains out of Washington’s lineup following an early exit from Sunday’s game due to a right thumb injury. X-rays came back negative and Nationals manager Davey Martinez told reporters he thinks the 23-year-old rookie, who is dealing specifically with a fingernail injury, will be ready to return at some point this week.
  • WAS Shortstop #8
X-rays returned negative on Jose Tena’s thumb.
Tena was removed from the game against the Angels with a right thumb injury, but he’s dealing with a fingernail issue without any structural damage. The infielder should be considered day-to-day with a good chance to return to the lineup in a short time.
  • WAS Shortstop #8
Jose Tena left Sunday’s game against the Angels with a right thumb injury.
Tena injured the thumb while attempting to field a grounder in the third inning. The 23-year-old infielder was replaced by Ildemaro Vargas at third base. Tena should be considered day-to-day for now, but he’ll likely undergo testing to see the severity of the injury.
