  • PHI Shortstop #86
MLB suspended INF Jose Rodriguez for violating Major League Baseball’s betting policy.
It was determined that Rodriguez bet on baseball while he was with the White Sox organization, but that he didn’t appear in any games he played in or compromised the outcome. He’ll be eligible to return in the summer of 2025.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #55
MLB suspended LHP Jay Groome one year for violating Major League Baseball’s betting policy.
Groome was suspended along with Athletics right-handed pitcher Michael Kelly, Diamondbacks left-hander Andrew Saalfrank, and Phillies infielder Jose Rodriguez for one year. The four players were found guilty of betting on the sport, but they weren’t on the roster or injured list of the team they bet on. That was not the case of Tucupita Marcano, who was banned for life for getting over $87,000 on that situation.
  • PHI Shortstop #86
Phillies acquired INF José Rodríguez from the White Sox for cash considerations.
The 22-year-old infielder had been designated for assignment on Thursday, so rather the White Sox were willing to flip him for anything that they could get. It’s unclear which minor league affiliate he’ll report to for the Phillies.
  • CWS Shortstop #86
White Sox designated INF José Rodríguez for assignment.
The 22-year-old infielder will hit waivers as the White Sox plan to add Mike Clevinger to the 40-man roster. Rodríguez appeared in one game for the White Sox during the 2023 season but played a majority of his games at the Double-A level where he slashed .264/.297/.450 across 404 plate appearances.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
Wbite Sox optioned OF Oscar Colás, RHP Davis Martin, LHP Sammy Peralta and INF José Rodriguez to Triple-A Charlotte; optioned LHP Jake Eder and RHP Josimar Cousin to Double-A Birmingham; reassigned Cs Edgar Quero and Adam Hackenburg, RHPs Edgar Navarro and Lane Ramsey, and LHPs Ky Bush and Fraser Ellard to minor league camp.
No real surprises here as Colás figured to be edged out of contention for an Opening Day roster spot after an influx of talent during the offseason. Meanwhile, Quero and Bush represent a pair of top prospects on the verge of making it to the big leagues relatively soon. It’s a bit surprising to see Eder heading back to Double-A, but he’ll get plenty of innings there to open the year.
  • CWS Shortstop #55
White Sox optioned INF José Rodríguez to Triple-A Charlotte.
It winds up being just a one-game stint with the White Sox this time around for Rodríguez, but there’s a chance he’ll return at some point later this month.
  • CWS Shortstop #55
White Sox recalled INF Jose Rodriguez from Double-A Birmingham.
A bit of a surprising choice here, as this could cut into Lenyn Sosa’s audition time at second. The 22-year-old Rodríguez hasn’t really earned it, either. He did hit .264 with 18 homers and 28 steals in Double-A, but tit came with a poor .297 OBP. One imagines he’ll get a couple of starts per week at second and maybe one at shortstop. Elvis Andrus, already mostly phased out despite being the White Sox’s best infielder during the second half, will have even less to do.
  • CWS Shortstop #55
White Sox optioned INF José Rodríguez to Double-A Birmingham.
Rodríguez made his major league debut last week and it wound up being his only appearance during a brief stay in the majors. The 22-year-old middle infielder will head back to the upper minors to continue his development.
  • PHI Shortstop #86
White Sox recalled INF Jose Rodriguez from Double-A Birmingham.
With Romy González (shoulder) heading to the injured list, Rodriguez will get an opportunity to show what he can do at the big league level for the first time. The 22-year-old has hit .238/.274/.429 with nine homers, 25 RBI and nine stolen bases in 201 plate appearances at Double-A Birmingham this season.

  • CWS Shortstop #50
White Sox optioned INF Lenyn Sosa and C Carlos Perez to Triple-A Charlotte; optioned INF’s Bryan Ramos and Jose Rodriguez to Double-A Birmingham.
The club also reassigned OF Yoelquis Cespedes, RHP Edgar Navarro and LHPs Nate Fisher, Andrew Perez and Sammy Peralta to minor league camp. There were no real surprises among this batch of cuts, as Sosa’s chances of cracking the Opening Day roster were crushed when the club re-signed Elvis Andrus. The White Sox are now down to 50 players remaining on the big league side of spring camp.
