Cuas heads to Triple-A Lehigh Valley as extra organizational relief depth after being designated for assignment earlier this week by Toronto. The 30-year-old righty has made 13 relief appearances this season between the Cubs and Blue Jays.

Cuas has been jettisoned from Toronto’s 40-man roster with the club claiming reliever Emmanuel Ramirez off waivers from the Marlins. The 30-year-old righty made just four relief appearances for the Blue Jays after being claimed off waivers back in late June from the Cubs.

Cuas returns to the minors after pitching a scoreless inning last night. He has a 7.71 ERA in 16 1/3 innings for the Cubs and Jays this season.

Cuas has given up three runs in two innings for the Jays and has an 8.22 ERA overall in 15 1/3 innings as a major leaguer this season. He’ll work in middle relief.

The 30-year-old right-hander has struggled in all chances at the big-league level this season, posting a miserable 8.22 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and a 16/7 K/BB ratio in 15 1/3 innings. He’ll continue to work on refining his craft at the Triple-A level. Ryan Burr was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move on Friday.

He could pique another team’s interest on waivers.

Cuas heads back to the minors with veteran lefty Drew Smyly coming off the injured list prior to Saturday’s showdown against the Cardinals. The 29-year-old righty has made nine relief appearances this season in the big leagues.

Cuas was effective in 27 appearances for the Cubs after coming over from the Royals last season, he’s allowed eight runs in eight innings during his major league stints this year. He’ll resume working in middle relief.
