Giants re-signed RHP José Cruz to a minor league contract.

Cruz was non-tendered by the Giants earlier this month, but quickly wound up re-signing with San Francisco as extra organizational relief depth. The 23-year-old righty has yet to reach the majors and struggled mightily this past season at Double-A Richmond.

Cruz was added to the Giants’ 40-man a year ago, but he couldn’t handle Double-A, posting a 6.66 ERA and walking 31 in 25 2/3 innings out of the pen. He’s still young and has a nice arm, but he no longer seemed worthy of the roster spot.

With this move, the Giants are now down to 53 players remaining on the big league side of camp. The 22-year-old hurler registered a strong 2.06 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 86/23 K/BB ratio over 52 1/3 innings in 38 appearances at Low-A San Jose during the 2022 season.
