José Berríos allowed six runs over three innings in a loss to the Marlins on Friday.
It was the final start of the year for Berrios, and it was a disappointing end to what was a solid season for the 30-year-old. He was in consistent trouble, as he walked three and allowed six hits against a less-than-spectacular Miami lineup. Berrios finished the year with a 3.60 ERA and a 153/54 K/BB while reaching 192 1/3 innings. He’ll definitely belong on rosters to begin 2025 in the majority of leagues.

José Berríos allowed one run with six strikeouts across six innings in a loss to the Rays on Friday.
What an outing for Berríos. He faced some trouble in the second and third innings, but was able to work through unscathed. While that pushed up his pitch count, he had his swing-and-miss stuff working. All five of his pitches forced at least two whiffs and he wound up with 19 total on that night. That’s the most swings-and-misses he’s forced in one outing since 2023 as he’s putting the finishing touches on a fantastic bounce-back season. He’s scheduled to face the Red Sox on the road in what should be his final start of the season.

José Berríos allowed one run with four strikeouts over seven innings in a win over the Cardinals on Saturday.
Berríos was outstanding against the Cardinals, holding them to one run over seven frames. The only run allowed came on a solo homer by Jordan Walker in the third inning. Berríos allowed only one other hit and walked two batters while striking out four. The 30-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.44 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 143/50 K/BB ratio across 183 1/3 innings. He’ll take on the Rays in Tampa Bay on Friday.

José Berrios held Atlanta to one run in six innings to get a win for the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Berrios scattered five hits with one free pass issued, and he struck out five. He blanked the Atlanta lineup until the fifth when he gave up an RBI single to Michael Harris II. The right-hander is on a roll right now with six consecutive starts where he’s allowed no more than two runs, and he’s gone at least six innings in all of those outings. Berrios gets a chance to keep that streak going against the Cardinals over the weekend.

José Berríos threw six shutout innings in a win over the Twins, allowing three hits and striking out five.
Berríos relied on plenty of called strikes on Saturday, getting 17 called strikes and just five total whiffs for a 35 percent CSW but 19 percent whiff rate. It wasn’t a particularly dominant outing, but the veteran was around the strike zone and perhaps benefitted from a Twins team that lacked much fight after being down 9-0 by the end of the second inning. Whatever the case may be, Berríos will take a 3.59 ERA into a tough matchup in Atlanta next week.

José Berríos was charged with three runs — two earned — over 7 2/3 innings on Monday in a win over the Red Sox.
Berríos completely silenced Boston’s lineup after giving up a run-scoring single to Triston Casas in the third inning, keeping them off the scoreboard until Jarren Duran connected for a two-run blast in the eighth inning. He finished with six strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. It’s been a roller coaster of a year for the 30-year-old righty, but he’s in the midst of a strong stretch at the moment, allowing two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six starts since July 28. He’ll face the Twins, his former organization, on Saturday at Target Field.

José Berríos allowed two runs over seven innings on Tuesday in a win over the Reds.
Berríos struck out seven and handed out a pair of free passes as he managed to limit Cincinnati’s solid lineup to just six hits and was helped out with double-digit run support to cruise to a relatively easy win. He’s in line for a favorable matchup on Sunday against the rebuilding Angels, who he limited to just one run over seven innings last week.

José Berríos allowed one run with five strikeouts over seven innings in a win over the Angels on Wednesday.
Berríos dominated the Angels on Wednesday, holding them to one run over seven frames. The one run came on a solo homer by Matt Thaiss in the fifth inning. Berríos tossed an efficient 61-of-84 pitches for strikes, walking one batters while striking out five. The 30-year-old right-hander will take a 3.85 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 116/44 K/BB ratio across 149 2/3 innings into a start against the Reds in Toronto on Tuesday.

José Berríos allowed just one run across seven innings in a 3-1 win over the Athletics on Friday.
Berríos was excellent in this one. He clung to the edges while consistently staying ahead of the Athletics’ hitters and forcing them to chase his nasty slurve. He’s made an adjustment lately to lean more on that slurve and his sinker. That approach worked like a charm here. This start dropped his ERA down to 3.97.

José Berríos was charged with six runs (five earned) over five innings on Saturday in a loss to the Yankees.
Berríos’s ongoing struggles continued on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium as he served up a trio of two-run homers to Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham and Anthony Volpe, respectively, which accounted for all of the damage against him. The 30-year-old righty got off to a great start earlier this year, but the underlying advanced metrics hinted at some looming regression. We didn’t think it would be this dramatic as he’s allowed four earned runs or more in six of his last nine outings dating back to June 16. He’ll attempt to turn things around on Friday in a favorable matchup against the rebuilding Athletics.
