Jorge Campillo will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the season.
He’ll miss much of 2006, too. Campillo has had discomfort in his elbow for much of the season, but he said he thought he was 100 percent prior to Tuesday’s setback.

The Mariners have acquired the rights of RHP Jorge Campillo from his team in Mexico and will begin negotiations on a contract with him later this week.
The Tigers were also pursuing the 26-year-old Campillo, who starred in the Mexican Pacific League over the winter. ''He’s not a thrower as much as he changes speeds, has command,’' GM Bill Bavasi said. ''He’s probably average-fast, maybe a little bit below, but he can get above when he needs to.’' Campillo is more likely to make an impact as a middle reliever, but he apparently will join Ryan Franklin and Aaron Sele in the competition for a rotation spot.

Mariners transferred RHP Jorge Campillo from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
Campillo is out for the season following Tommy John surgery.
  • KC Starting Pitcher
Mariners sent RHP Jorge Campillo outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
Campillo underwent Tommy John surgery in August, so there was no reason to keep him on the 40-man roster. He’ll probably resume pitching in the minors around midseason.

Jorge Campillo picked up a win after allowing a run in two innings against the Rangers today in his spring debut.
Campillo shouldn’t be in line behind both Ryan Franklin and Aaron Sele for the fifth spot in Seattle’s rotation. Middle relief might be the best place for him.

Jorge Campillo gave up three runs while working the ninth inning today against the Giants.
Campillo was only making his second appearance, so it’s probably too early for judgments. Still, we’d be surprised if he breaks camp with the Mariners. He’s not going to win a rotation spot, and there isn’t likely to be room for him in the pen.

Mariners optioned RHP Jorge Campillo to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned RHP Aaron Loopez and C Wiki Gonzalez to minor league camp.
Campillo, who was signed out of the Mexican League last month, was sent down despite allowing one run in five innings tonight in a win over the Angels. He’ll probably get a look as a middle reliever at some point.

Mariners purchased the contract of RHP Jorge Campillo from Triple-A Tacoma.
Campillo must have had a clause in his minor league contract requiring that he be added to the 40-man roster as soon as a spot could be freed up. The 26-year-old right-hander is competing for a spot in Seattle’s rotation.

Mariners optioned RHP Jorge Campillo to Triple-A Tacoma.
Joel Pineiro will replace him on the roster and start Tuesday. Campillo pitched a scoreless inning in his lone appearance while on Seattle’s roster.
