Royals signed C Jorge Alfaro to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Alfaro spent most of last season in Triple-A for the Nationals organization, hitting 15 home runs in 82 games. He also hit .256 (10-for-39) with zero homers, three RBIs, and a 14/0 K/BB ratio with the big league club. The 32-year-old has a .692 career OPS with a 27% caught stealing rate over parts of nine MLB seasons.

Nationals C Jorge Alfaro elected free agency.
The 32-year-old backstop refused an outright assignment from the Nationals to Triple-A Rochester and instead will peddle his wares on the open market. Alfaro hit .256 (10-for-39) with zero homers, three RBI and a 14/0 K/BB ratio in his limited action with the Nats in 2025. He’ll almost assuredly have to settle for a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training this winter.

Riley Adams (groin) is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Marlins.
The encouraging development here is that Adams hasn’t been sent to the injured list after taking a foul ball to the groin area during Tuesday’s game. The 29-year-old will likely need a couple extra days off to rest and recover after the painful incident. It’ll be journeyman Jorge Alfaro handling the catching duties in his absence.

Riley Adams made an early exit from Tuesday’s game against the Marlins with an apparent groin injury.
Adams took a foul tip in an extremely unfortunate place and immediately left the game. The hope here is that he managed to avoid serious injury. It’ll be Jorge Alfaro taking over the catching duties for now. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Nationals signed C Jorge Alfaro to a one-year contract.
The 32-yer-old journeyman joins the team after hitting .244/.285/.420 with 15 homers for Milwaukee’s Triple-A club. Alfaro will share time with Riley Adams behind the plate for now, but he could lose his spot if Keibert Ruiz is able to return from his concussion.

The Nationals are signing Jorge Alfaro to a major league deal, according to the Washington Post’s Andrew Golden.
Alfaro just became a free agent after playing in 82 games for the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate and batting .244/.285/.420 with 15 homers in 326 plate appearances. He figures to take the spot of C.J. Stubbs, unless the Nationals want to go with three catchers.
  • MIL 3rd Baseman #14
Brewers optioned INF Andruw Monasterio to Triple-A Nashville; reassigned RHP Craig Yoho and C Jorge Alfaro to minor league camp.
Yoho boasts one of the most electric changeups in the game and has recorded astronomical strikeout totals in the upper minors. It feels like only a matter of time before he reaches the big leagues. Monasterio’s departure leaves Caleb Durbin and Vinny Capra as Milwaukee’s likely bench options as versatile utility infielders.
  • MIL Catcher #32
Brewers signed C Jorge Alfaro to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Alfaro didn’t appear in the big leagues last year and has officially achieved journeyman status after spending time with four different clubs during the previous three seasons. The 31-year-old is a one-dimensional slugging backstop at this stage of his career and never quite lived up to the astronomical hype as one of the most highly-regarded catching prospects of the last decade. He’ll bolster Milwaukee’s catching depth heading into spring training behind William Contreras, Eric Haase and top prospect Jeferson Quero.

Cubs signed C Jorge Alfaro to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Alfaro augments Chicago’s catching depth behind veteran Yan Gomes and former prospect Miguel Amaya heading into spring training as he’ll compete in the Cactus League for a spot on the Cubs’ season-opening roster. The 30-year-old one-dimensional slugging backstop never quite lived up to the hype as one of the most highly-regarded catching prospects of the last decade, but he’s a viable emergency option at this stage of his career. He got into 18 games this past season between the Red Sox and Rockies at the big league level.
  • MIA Catcher #38
Marlins signed C Jorge Alfaro to a minor league contract.
Alfaro returns to Miami where he spent three seasons from 2019 to 2021, after a two-year odyssey that included stints with the Padres, Rockies and Red Sox. The 30-year-old backstop was regarded as one of the best athletic prospects at the position in recent memory on his way to the majors, but never quite put it all together at the highest level. He provides the Marlins with a quality backup catching option moving forward.
