Nationals re-signed INF Jordy Barley to a minor league contract.
The 23-year-old infielder was acquired from the Padres back in 2021 in the deal for Mason Thompson. Barley hit .239/.309/.359 with five homers, 22 RBI and 31 stolen bases in 264 plate appearances across three minor league levels during the 2023 season — finishing up with a 23-game stint at Triple-A Rochester. He’ll continue to provide infield depth for the Nats.

Nationals acquired INF Jordy Barley from the Padres in the deal for Mason Thompson.
Barley was one of the speedier prospects in the San Diego system, and in 61 games, he had stolen 33 bases in 39 attempts for Low-A Lake Elsinore. He also has struck out 82 times in 61 at-bats, and the switch-hitter has hit just .240 over 279 plate appearances. Barley is talented, but has a long way to go before he can help in the bigs.
