Orioles activated INF Jordan Westburg from the 10-day injured list.
RamĂłn UrĂas was likewise activated. Westburg is back after going 4-for-10 with a homer and a double in three rehab games. He started two of those at second base, which could be a sign that the Orioles will use him over Jackson Holliday at that spot. If so, UrĂas could start at third.
  • BAL Shortstop #29
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde mentioned that he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Ramón Urías (ankle) is back in the Orioles lineup before Jordan Westburg (hand).
It’s not a surprise considering Urías is coming back from a sprained ankle and Westburg is coming back from a fractured right hand. Hyde mentioned that both players will need “multiple games before returning” to the Orioles’ lineup, but fantasy managers in weekly waiver leagues could find some value in adding either player on Sunday night since it seems like they should be back at some point next week.
  • BAL Shortstop #11
Jordan Westburg will begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Norfolk.
Westburg will likely need at least a handful of games in Triple-A before he’s ready to return to the roster — assuming everything goes well, of course. The 25-year-old has missed right around eight weeks with his fractured right hand, and will be a welcome return to the lineup for Baltimore ahead of a (probable) playoff appearance.
  • BAL Shortstop #11
Orioles manager Mike Elias said the team expects Jordan Westburg back before the end of the regular season.
Westburg took batting practice on the field before Tuesday’s game as he progresses in his return from a right hand fracture that’s kept him out for seven weeks already. There’s still no concrete timetable for his return.
  • BAL Shortstop #11
Jordan Westburg has progressed to taking dry swings in his return from a fractured right hand.
Westburg suffered the injury six weeks ago today and was given a timetable of 6-8 weeks afterwards. Obviously, he’s going to be on the long side of that now, but it does look like he’ll return before the end of the month.
  • BAL Shortstop #11
Jordan Westburg (hand) progressed to playing catch and throwing without limitations.
Westburg, who is roughly five weeks removed from suffering a right hand fracture, has shed the cast on his injured right hand and has been able to resume regular baseball activities. It shouldn’t be too long before he’s cleared to resume swinging a bat. However, he’s probably a couple weeks away from returning, even in a best-case scenario.
  • BAL Shortstop #11
Jordan Westburg (hand) has resumed light baseball activities.
Westburg is roughly three weeks removed from suffering a right hand fracture that was originally expected to keep him sidelined for 6-8 weeks. It’s highly unlikely the 25-year-old infielder will be able to return before the regular season wraps up, but he appears to be on track to be ready for the postseason, barring any setbacks.
  • BAL Third Baseman #11
Orioles placed 2B/3B Jordan Westburg on the 10-day injured list with a right hand fracture.
Westburg suffered the injury in Wednesday’s game, and the Orioles have already said that the injury would keep him out 6-8 weeks, which could potentially end his regular season. It’s a tough break for Westburg and fantasy managers, and he can be dropped in redrafts leagues if you’re in a pinch. Despite the Orioles having an MLB-ready third base prospect in Triple-A in Coby Mayo, who has hit 20 home runs in 75 games this season with an OPS of .944, the team will call up Livan Soto and presumably continue to start Ramon Urias at third base.
  • BAL Third Baseman #11
Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Jordan Westburg suffered a right hand fracture.
Westburg fractured his right hand when he was hit by a 95 mph fastball during Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays. Hyde said the Orioles are hoping he can return by the end of the regular season. Westburg is droppable in formats without spots for injured players based on that timetable. It’s a tough blow for fantasy managers as Westburg was enjoying a breakout season with a .271 average, 18 home runs and 58 RBI. The calls for Baltimore to call up Coby Mayo will only grow louder as the team moves forward without Westburg for the time being. It seems like a virtual lock that Mayo will get the call to the majors following this latest development.
  • BAL Third Baseman #11
Jordan Westburg (hand) left Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays.
Westburg was hit on the hand with a fastball. He was checked out by the Orioles trainer and momentarily stayed in the game before he was replaced by Ramon Urias. It could be a precautionary measure, but getting hit with a 95 mph fastball on the hand could also lead to a serious injury. This is a situation to monitor and we’ll update when we know more.
