Holloway

Holloway spent last season at the Triple-A level between the White Sox and Cubs. The 27-year-old righty, who hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since making 15 appearances (four starts) for the Marlins from 2020 to 2022, will augment Seattle’s relief depth at Triple-A Tacoma to open the 2024 campaign.

Holloway exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league contract with the Cubs last week after struggling to an inflated 6.57 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 24/12 K/BB ratio across 12 1/3 innings (12 appearances) this season for Triple-A Iowa. The 27-year-old righty, who has made 15 appearances (four starts) for the Marlins since 2020, will get an opportunity with the White Sox as organizational relief depth.

Holloway, a non-roster invitee to Cubs camp, could miss at least a few weeks. The former Marlin will likely head to Triple-A once healthy.

The 26-year-old hurler made just one appearance with the Marlins in 2022, but overall he holds a 3.92 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 38/28 K/BB ratio across 39 innings in his major league career. Holloway has pitched both as a starter and a reliever over the past two seasons so he gives the Cubs extra depth and options depending on how they want to utilize him.

The right-hander’s 2022 season was cut short when he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his pitching elbow in early August. He’s expected to be ready physically for the start of spring training -- though he no longer holds a spot on the club’s 40-man roster.

Holloway will be shut down from throwing for roughly six weeks and will miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign. It sounds like he’ll be ready to pitch next spring.

The move effectively ends his season. Holloway is dealing with a right elbow injury.

Holloway just made his first MLB appearance of the season earlier this week, yielding one earned run over 2 2/3 innings of relief on Monday night at Cincinnati. It’s unclear how long he might be sidelined.

The 26-year-old hurler will take the place of the injured Cody Poteet (elbow) on the active roster. Holloway has compiled a troublesome 6.08 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 34/20 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings in the minors this season.

Holloway will not make the Marlins’ Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old righty missed time due to injury last season, but was effective in a brief stint at the major-league level, posting a solid 4.00 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 36/26 K/BB ratio across 36 innings (13 appearances, four starts). He’ll likely get another opportunity early on in the 2022 season.
