Royals signed INF Jordan Groshans to a minor league contract.
Groshans was a notable prospect a couple years ago after being selected 12th overall in the 2018 MLB Draft, but he never broke through with the Blue Jays before bouncing around the last three years between the Marlins, Yankees and Athletics. The 25-year-old infielder batted .235/.311/.318 with four homers in 383 plate appearances last year at the Double-A and Triple-A levels. He’ll continue to get opportunities based on his prospect pedigree alone, but he’s done nothing at the plate to suggest that he’s on the verge of becoming an impact fantasy contributor.
  • OAK Third Baseman #84
Athletics acquired INF Jordan Groshans and cash considerations from the Yankees for INF J.D. Davis.
This is exactly the type of move a rebuilding franchise should theoretically make every time, exhcanging a veteran for a former top prospect recalamtion project. Groshans was a top-100 prospect just a couple seasons ago, but has fizzled out with a couple organizations lately. The 24-year-old infielder, who was the 12th overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, holds a .590 OPS with one homer in 50 games this season in the upper minors.
  • NYY Third Baseman #10
Yankees sent INF Jordan Groshans outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The 24-year-old former top prospect had been designated for assignment earlier in the week to make room on the 40-man for Jahmai Jones, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra depth for the Bombers. Groshans hit .268/.413/.466 with 12 homers and 12 steals over 103 games at the Triple-A level in 2023.
  • NYY Third Baseman #10
Yankees designated INF Jordan Groshans for assignment.
Groshans has been removed from New York’s 40-man roster to make room for versatile infielder Jahmai Jones. The 24-year-old former top prospect, who was claimed earlier this month from the Marlins, figures to garner some interest on waivers.
  • NYY Second Baseman #15
Yankees claimed INF Jahmai Jones on waivers from the Brewers.
A one-time top 100 prospect, Jones’ development has stalled out a bit in recent seasons. He spent last season in Triple-A for both the Dodgers and Brewers organizations, hitting .268/.413/.466 with 12 home runs and 12 steals in 103 games. He got 11 plate appearances for the Brewers at the end of the season but was designated for assignment to make room for Brandon Woodruff to re-sign with Milwaukee last week. He will likely start the year in the minors for the Yankees, who waived Jordan Groshans to make room.
  • NYY Third Baseman #10
Yankees claimed INF Jordan Groshans off waivers from the Marlins.
Groshans is still just 24, but he doesn’t have a lot else going for him at this point. He wound up at just .243/.339/.330 in 528 PA in Triple-A last season, and it doesn’t look like he’s ever going to hit for power. He draws walks and he’s pretty good at third base, but that’s not going to be enough. He’ll likely spend most of the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • MIA Third Baseman #10
Marlins designated INF Jordan Groshans for assignment.
The Marlins needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Jonah Bride on Tuesday night and Groshans drew the short straw this time around. The 24-year-old spent the entire 2023 campaign at Triple-A Jacksonville where he slashed an underwhelming .244/.339/.330 with six homers, 60 RBI and a 92/66 K/BB ratio over 528 plate appearances. There’s a decent chance he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as depth for the Fish.
  • KC Third Baseman #84
Marlins optioned INF Jordan Groshans to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Groshans has been limited to just eleven Grapefruit League games due to shoulder soreness and will open the season in Triple-A. He will focus on playing thrid base once he is healthy and will serve as minor-league depth for the Marlins.

  • KC Third Baseman #84
Jordan Groshans (shoulder) took batting practice on Tuesday.
Groshans has been sidelined since early March due to shoulder soreness. He doesn’t appear to be in the running for a spot on Miami’s season-opening roster following the recent additions of José Iglesias and Yuli Gurriel.

  • KC Third Baseman #84
Jordan Groshans will visit a specialist after experiencing shoulder soreness.
Groshans doesn’t appear to be in the mix for a spot on the Marlins’ season-opening roster after the club signed veterans José Iglesias and Yuli Gurriel earlier this week to fill bench roles. He figures to open the year at Triple-A Jacksonville and will focus primarily on playing third base.
