Bermúdez had an 8.10 ERA over 6 2/3 innings for the Marlins, including one start. The 28-year-old will now look to latch on with another organization. Michael Petersen will take his place on the active roster.

Petersen was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Tuesday and will now elevate him to the active roster after designating Jonathan Bermudez for assignment. The 30-year-old right-hander went 3-0 with a 6.43 ERA in 11 relief appearances with the Dodgers this season.

Bermúdez made his big league debut back on August 27 and will get another look in Miami’s relief mix with the Marlins overhauling their roster ahead of Saturday’s game against the Phillies.

Bermúdez was DFA’d on Saturday after allowing two runs in 3 2/3 innings for the Marlins.

The 28-year-old southpaw was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville earlier in the week and now he’s bumped off of the Marlins’ 40-man roster to free up a spot for Jose Devers. There’s a decent chance that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Fish.

Bermúdez, 28, made his big-league debut on Tuesday in relief of Roddery Munoz, giving up two runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings of work while striking out three batters. The Marlins simply needed to add some fresh arms to their bullpen on Wednesday and couldn’t keep him around if he was going to be unavailable for a few days. He could get another shot with the Fish before the 2024 season concludes.

Bermúdez is up, Emmanuel Ramirez is down. Bermúdez will be a multi-inning option for the Marlins as they are effectively just playing out the remainder of the season. Whenever Bermúdez gets into a game, he’ll be making his MLB debut.

Bermudez signed on with the Marlins back in late April after being released by the Giants at the end of spring training. The 27-year-old left-hander has yet to reach the majors, but was on the San Francisco’s 40-man roster as recently as last September.

Bermudez was removed from the Giants’ 40-man roster last September a couple weeks after being claimed off waivers from the Astros. The 27-year-old left-hander has yet to reach the majors, but represents a worthwhile lottery ticket for a rebuilding organization.

Bermudez was unclaimed after being designated for assignment on August 23. The left-hander is just depth for the rest of the 2022 campaign.
