Padres signed LHP Joe Beimel to a minor league contract.
The 44-year-old southpaw has been clocked in the mid-90’s as of late and has decided to make a comeback. Beimel hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since logging 47 1/3 innings with the Mariners during the 2015 season -- and hasn’t pitched in organized baseball since a tour with the New Britain Bees in the independent Atlantic League back in 2017. He’ll report to Double-A San Antonio.

Devil Rays signed LHP Joe Beimel to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Beimel had a 6.97 ERA for Triple-A Rochester and then gave up eight runs in 1 2/3 innings for the Twins in September. He won’t make the Rays as a lefty specialist.

Joe Beimel was cleared to start a throwing program yesterday after missing five days with lower back pain.
An MRI and X-rays came back negative. Beimel should be ready for Opening Day.

Joe Beimel said he had agreed to terms with the Pirates on a one-year contract.
Beimel and Mike Lincoln were the Pirates’ two candidates to be non-tendered. It appears that Beimel will return as one of the team’s lefty relievers. Lincoln has yet to receive a contract offer.

Joe Beimel, who had been pitching in middle relief, will now assume a late-inning role as a lefty specialist.
Beimel’s value does not change though he is now the lone lefty in the Pittsburgh bullpen.

Joe Beimel plans to use a sidearm delivery this year after experimenting with it all winter.
Beimel needs to get tougher on left-handers if he wants to be on a 40-man roster at this time next year. If he duplicates last year’s 5.05 ERA, he’s sure to be non-tendered in December, assuming that he isn’t just released during the season.

Joe Beimel (elbow) is expected to face live hitters Saturday.
Beimel was shut down for a few days last week while dealing with some tightness in his pitching elbow, but he’s felt fine the last couple days and doesn’t think it will be an issue going forward. The veteran southpaw is trying to win a roster spot as a non-roster invitee.

Jose Beimel (elbow) tossed a one-inning simulated game Monday morning in Rangers camp.
Beimel threw 15 pitches -- 11 of which were strikes -- in the short outing. He’s been slowed by tightness in his pitching elbow but has plenty of time to get his work in before the start of the 2012 regular season. The 34-year-old left-hander is trying to win a spot in the Texas ‘pen.

Joe Beimel will be shut down for at least 2-3 days due to stiffness in his left elbow.
It’s concerning because Beimel missed a couple months of action last year while dealing with inflammation in his pitching elbow. At this point, though, it doesn’t appear that an MRI has been scheduled. The non-roster invitee is trying to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster with a strong spring, but he’s not off to a good start.

Joe Beimel (elbow) is schedule to throw in an intrasquad game Monday.
Beimel was cleared after going through live batting practice Saturday without any issues. Assuming he doesn’t have any setbacks, Beimel has a good shot to make the Rangers’ Opening Day roster as a non-roster invitee.
