Nationals designated RHP Joan Adon for assignment.
After eight years in the Nationals system, Adon might be on the move. Our guess, though, is that he’ll clear waivers. The 26-year-old is just 3-16 with a 6.66 ERA in 26 starts and nine relief appearances at the major league level, and he hasn’t been very successful in Triple-A of late, either. He’s also out of options, making him less attractive to teams looking for pitchers they can move between the minors and majors easily.

Nationals transferred RHP Joan Adon to 60-day injured list.
Adon was already out for the season. This was merely a housekeeping move to create space on the 40-man roster for Friday’s starter Trevor Williams. Zach Brzykcy was optioned to the minors to make room on the active roster.
  • WAS Relief Pitcher #64
Nationals recalled RHP Orlando Ribalta from Triple-A Rochester.
With Joan Adon landing on the IL, Ribalta will get another shot in the MLB bullpen. The 26-year-old has allowed three runs on five hits in two innings for the Nationals so far this season but has a more palatable 3.64 ERA and 37:14 K:BB ratio in 29 2/3 innings at Triple-A.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #60
Nationals placed RHP Joan Adon on the 15-day injured list with a right biceps strain.
The nature and timing of the injury will all but end Adon’s season. The 26-year-old has transitioned to the bullpen this season, but it hasn’t done much for his success at the major league level. The Nationals recalled Orlando Ribalta from Triple-A Rochester to take Adon’s place in the bullpen.

Nationals recalled RHP Joan Adon from Triple-A Rochester.
Adon returns to the big leagues ahead of Saturday’s game against the Phillies to replace an injured Derek Law (elbow) in Washington’s bullpen. The 26-year-old righty has posted a lackluster 6.48 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 4/3 K/BB ratio across 8 1/3 innings (six appearances, one start) this season in the big leagues.

Nationals optioned RHP Joan Adon to Triple-A Rochester.
Adon was shipped back to the minors after Friday’s game against the Angels. The 25-year-old righty has compiled a lackluster 6.48 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 4/3 K/BB ratio across 8 1/3 innings (six appearances, one start) this season in the big leagues.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #60
Nationals recalled RHP Joan Adon from Triple-A Rochester.
Adon finds himself back in the majors after the Nationals made several moves at Tuesday’s trade deadline. The 25-year-old righty has made 29 appearances (26 starts) in the big leagues since 2021.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #60
Nationals optioned RHP Joan Adon to Triple-A Rochester.
Adon, 25, was recalled from Triple-A on Monday with the expectation that he’d fill DJ Herz’s spot in the club’s starting rotation. Instead, he was utilized out of the bullpen on Monday where he gave up a pair of runs on three hits over his lone inning of work. It’ll be Jackson Rutledge taking his spot on the active roster and drawing a start against the Brewers on Friday night.

Nationals recalled RHP Joan Adon from Triple-A Rochester
Adon will take DJ Herz’s spot on the active roster, but it seems as though he will be pitching out of the bullpen for now. “The bullpen’s been worked a lot, as we know,” said Nationals manager Davey Martinez said. “It just gives us one more arm in the bullpen for the next five days, until we figure out what we’re going to do next. Hopefully, he can help us out there.” Adon has been mainly a starting pitcher in the minors this season but has also made five appearances out of the bullpen. He also has a 5.55 ERA in 60 innings at Triple-A this season and is off all fantasy radars.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #74
Nationals optioned LHP DJ Herz to Triple-A Rochester.
Herz had a rough start in his last game out against the Cardinals and has a 5.17 ERA in seven starts on the year, but the move is surprising because he flashed clear upside with two double-digit strikeout games in those seven starts. With the Nationals not contending this season, it made sense for them to see what they have in Herz and have him adjust to major league hitting, but it seems the team is worried about his workload. “I only threw 112 innings last year, so I need a little rest,” Herz said. “That’s kind of what they told me. Just take some time to get some rest, and then hopefully we’ll be back up here.” The left-hander should be back at some point in the season, but he can be dropped in almost all redraft leagues until that happens.
