Phillies sent OF Jhailyn Ortiz outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Ortiz went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week by the Phillies. The 24-year-old outfielder is off Philadelphia’s 40-man roster and will continue to function as organizational depth in the upper minors.

Phillies designated OF Jhailyn Ortiz for assignment.
Ortiz was a promising prospect with the Phillies a few years ago, but has yet to reach the majors. He’s been jettisoned from Philadelphia’s 40-man roster to enable them to bring up some extra relief depth for an overtaxed bullpen.

Phillies optioned OF’s Jhailyn Ortiz and Símon Muzziotti to Triple-A Lehigh Valley; optioned OF Johan Rojas to Double-A Reading.
Once again, there are no real surprises among this batch of cuts, things will get tougher over the next few weeks though. Ortiz, 24, hit .237/.319/.415 with 17 homers, 61 RBI, nine stolen bases and a 165/43 K/BB ratio over 119 games at Double-A Reading during the 2022 season.

Phillies assigned OF Jhailyn Ortiz, INF Luis Garcia and C Logan O’Hoppe to minor league camp.
No surprises among this group of cuts. The expectation is now they’ll get to play everyday on the minor league side instead of sporadically in big league camp. Jhailyn Ortiz, 23, impressed during the 2021 season, slashing .250/.346/.488 with 23 homers between High-A Jersey Shore and Double-A Reading.

Phillies purchased the contract of OF Jhailyn Ortiz from Double-A Reading.
Ortiz has been added to the Phillies’ 40-man roster and will be protected from next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 23-year-old posted a robust .250/.346/.488 slash line with 23 home runs, 12 doubles, and four stolen bases across 391 plate appearances between High-A Jersey Shore and Double-A Reading.

Jhailyn Ortiz delivered a grand slam Tuesday off the Blue Jays’ Jake Petricka.
Ortiz was a top international signing a few years back, but he hasn’t progressed as hoped and he was left unprotected and went unpicked in the Rule 5 draft in December. He’s just 21 and he still offers big-time power potential, but he’ll have to make a lot more contact to reemerge as a prospect.
