The White Sox placed Jesse Scholtens on the 60-day IL with a torn UCL.
Scholtens will have Tommy John surgery on Friday. The decision allows newly acquired LHP Bailey Horn to get on the 40-man roster. Scholtens appeared in 26 games (11 starts) for the White Sox last season and posted a 5.29 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 58/30 K/BB ratio. He was placed on the injured list toward the end of the season with a calf strain but this new elbow injury ultimately will keep him on the sidelines until 2025.

Jesse Scholtens threw four innings and allowed six runs — five earned — in a loss to the Twins on Friday.
Scholtens earned this one, though he doesn’t deserve to be 0-7 since the beginning of July. He’s given up 13 earned runs in 12 2/3 innings this month, taking his ERA from 3.97 to 4.77. He’ll probably finish up in the White Sox rotation anyway.

Jesse Scholtens surrendered one run across 5 1/3 innings Tuesday versus the Orioles but did not factor into the decision.
He struck out one, walked none, and scattered six hits on the night. It was a great bounce-back performance after the 29-year-old allowed five runs against Oakland on Thursday. The only mark on Scholtens’ resume Tuesday night was a run-scoring single off Adam Frazier’s bat in the bottom of the fifth inning. He’ll take a 3.97 ERA to Kansas City to face the Royals on Monday. Even with the tasty matchup, fantasy managers should avoid using him as a streamer in his next outing.

Jesse Scholtens allowed five runs across 5 2/3 innings but didn’t factor into the decision on Thursday.
After posting three quality starts in a row to begin August, Scholten has allowed five earned runs in his last two appearances. He allowed three homers, one to Brent Rooker and two to Shea Langeliers, and now sits with a 4.15 ERA. He will head to Baltimore to face the Orioles and shouldn’t be used as a streaming option on Tuesday.

Jesse Scholtens was handed a loss Saturday after allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings against the Brewers.
That’s three straight quality starts for Scholtens, and the first of those came on two days’ rest after he was moved from the bullpen to the rotation. His stuff isn’t remarkable, but he’s definitely made the most of it in posting a 3.20 ERA in 56 innings over five starts and 14 relief appearances. He’ll make his next start against the Rockies at Coors Field.
