Catcher Jeremy Brown went 4-for-6 and hit three homers Friday for Double-A Midland.
Brown is batting .264/.360/.477 in his second season at Midland. He has a chance of settling in as a major league backup a year or two from now.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
Athletics optioned catcher Jeremy Brown to Triple-A Sacramento.
Three stints in the majors and still no appearances in a game for Brown.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
Athletics recalled catcher Jeremy Brown from Triple-A Sacramento.
Brown is being recalled again not to actually play at all. He’ll serve as the emergency catcher on days that Adam Melhuse is used as a designated hitter. If he ever gets a start, it’d come as a shock.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
Athletics recalled catcher Jeremy Brown from Triple-A Sacramento.
This is a surprise. A’s manager Ken Macha made it perfectly clear that he had no intention of using Brown when Jason Kendall served his suspension last month. Adding him does free up Adam Melhuse to be used at DH, but that’s not anything that should happen more than once a week at the most. Brown doesn’t figure to survive the eventual return of Milton Bradley to the active roster.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
Athletics optioned catcher Jeremy Brown to Triple-A Sacramento.
Brown is being sent to the minors to make room for Milton Bradley’s expected return on Wednesday. The catcher hasn’t appeared in a game in two stints with the big club this season.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
Jeremy Brown homered, walked and was hit by a pitch in Saturday’s AFL action.
Brown, a major disappointment in Double-A last season, is hitting .400/.543/.760 in 11 games for Phoenix. He’ll need to keep showing power in Triple-A next year if he wants to again be viewed as a potential regular.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
Catching prospect Jeremy Brown homered and doubled for Double-A Midland yesterday.
Brown, a disappointment in his first year in Double-A, is batting .265/.397/.461 in 32 games this season. Maybe it’s not quite what the A’s hoped for when they drafted him, but he has a chance to be a long-term backup.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
Athletics sent catcher Jeremy Brown outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
It’s his first outright assignment, so he’ll have to accept it and remains with the River Cats.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
A’s designated C Jeremy Brown for assignment.
Oakland needed to make room on the 40-man roster for Colby Lewis, who was called up to get shelled in Tuesday’s game. Made famous by Michael Lewis’ bestselling book, Moneyball, Brown has struggled to hit in the high minors and figures to go unclaimed on waivers.
  • ATH Designated Hitter
Athletics announced the retirement of catcher Jeremy Brown.
Surprising. Brown, the famous “fat catcher” from Moneyball, still had a slight chance of carving out a major league career as a part-time player and, at worst, was sure to draw a pretty good Triple-A salary for several more years. The 28-year-old hit .276/.364/.469 for Sacramento last season. In his only major league action, he went 3-for-10 with two doubles in 2006.
