Giants placed OF Jerar Encarnacion on the 10-day injured list with a left hand fracture.
Encarnacion is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to address a hairline fracture in his left ring finger. He’ll take over as San Francisco’s primary DH at some point in late April or early May once he’s ready to return.

Jerar Encarnacion’s hand surgery was postponed until later this week due to travel issues.
Encarnacion was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday to repair a hairline fracture in his left ring finger. The 27-year-old slugger will open the season on the injured list and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks following the procedure. He’ll take over as San Francisco’s primary DH at some point in late April or early May once he’s ready to return.

Jerar Encarnacion has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his left ring finger and will open the regular season on the injured list.
It’s a brutal development for Encarnacion, who was in the midst of a strong spring at the dish before suffering the injury earlier this week during a Cactus League contest while attempting to make a diving catch. He’s facing a multi-week absence, and will undergo additional testing and evaluation this weekend to determine whether surgery is required, according to a team statement. There should be some clarity on his status later this weekend, but fantasy managers should anticipate him remaining on the shelf until at least late April or early May. His absence should result in an uptick in playing time for Luis Matos and Grant McCray, but their fantasy-relevance is limited to extremely deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats.

Giants manager Bob Melvin told reporters on Friday that Jerar Encarnacion will undergo precautionary X-rays after jamming his finger during Cactus League action.
The 27-year-old outfielder jammed his left ring finger while attempting to make a diving play in right field on Friday. The Giants are hopeful that he was able to avoid significant injury, but they’ll get the imaging done just to be on the safe side. Stay tuned.

Jerar Encarnacion went 1-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
An increasingly popular late-round breakout pick based on his sublime average exit velocity and barrel percentage last year, Encarnacion’s plate skills leave plenty to be desired. The 27-year-old’s mammoth raw power upside is undeniable, but he’s going to need to make better swing decisions if he’s going to get to it consistently in game action. He appears to have a relatively clear path to regular at-bats as San Francisco’s primary DH to open the regular season, which gives him some appeal in deeper mixed leagues as a cheap power source.

Jerar Encarnacion hit a two-run homer in Saturday’s game against the Dodgers.
Encarnacion, 27, hit the two-run blast off Jose Hernandez. The 6-foot-5 outfielder is battling for a spot on the bench to open 2025, and more power showings against southpaws will help in that battle.

Giants manager Bob Melvin said that LaMonte Wade Jr. could play some more outfield in 2025.
Wade Jr. allegedly spent the offseason doing lots of running to prepare for more of a role in the outfield. After playing 96 games in the outfield in 2021, Wade has played less and less out there and appeared in just 12 games last season. If he was able to move to the outfield in some starts, that could open up first base for Wilmer Flores and allow one of Jerar Encarnacion or Luis Matos to get more at-bats.

Heliot Ramos is not in the Giants’ starting lineup on Thursday.
It appears to be a routine day off for Ramos, who has struggled since the All-Star break, hitting .229 with 58 strikeouts in 53 games. He does have seven home runs and four steals over that span, so he hasn’t been giving you nothing, but he has not been worth putting in lineups in most fantasy leagues. Michael Conforto will slide to left field with Jerar Encarnacion in the lineup at designated hitter.

Michael Conforto is on the bench for a third straight game Friday.
The Giants have decided taking a look at Jerar Encarnacion is more important than getting Conforto his at-bats. It definitely suggests that Conforto, whose .229/.307/.430 line gives him a 110 OPS+, won’t be invited back as a free agent this winter.

Jerar Encarnacion went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI against the Brewers on Wednesday.
Encarnacion slugged a two-run homer off Colin Rea in the first inning to give the Giants a four-run lead. He later ended the lead with a base hit in the sixth to score Marco Luciano. The 26-year-old slugger has impressed in his time with the Giants, hitting .267/.300/.467 with four homers and 16 RBI across 80 plate appearances.
