Brewers signed C Jason Jaramillo to a minor league contract.
Jaramillo was released by the Cubs earlier this week. The 29-year-old backstop has a .235/.293/.327 batting line over 366 plate appearances in the big leagues and will presumably serve as depth at the Triple-A level.
  • Pirates non-tendered C Jason Jaramillo.
Jaramillo was designated for assignment last week, but is now officially a free agent. The 29-year-old batted .326 (14-for-43) in 23 games with the Pirates this season. Michael McKenry and Jose Morales figure to compete for the Pirates’ backup catcher job during spring training.
  • Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Cubs are nearing a minor league deal with Jason Jaramillo.
The Pirates non-tendered Jaramillo earlier this month. He hit .326 (14-for-43) in the majors in 2011 and will act as organizational catching depth next year for Chicago, perhaps serving as Geovany Soto’s primary backup.
  • Cubs signed C Jason Jaramillo to a minor league contract.
Jaramillo was non-tendered by the Pirates earlier this offseason. His deal with the Cubs includes an invitation to spring training, where the 29-year-old will get a shot at securing the backup catching job behind Geovany Soto.
  • Pirates designated C Jason Jaramillo for assignment.
The move was made to open up a spot for Erik Bedard on the team’s 40-man roster. Jaramillo, 29, batted .326 (14-for-43) in 23 games with the Pirates this season. He could draw some interest elsewhere, which would put the newly-signed Jose Morales in a strong position to make the Opening Day roster.
  • Brewers released C Jason Jaramillo.
Jaramillo batted just .221/.302/.289 with two homers over 75 games for Triple-A Nashville. He could conceivably shut it down for the year rather than look for a job for the final few weeks of the minor league season.
  • Astros signed C Jason Jaramillo to a minor league contract.
Jaramillo failed to appear in the majors last season and batted just .221/.302/.289 in 75 games at Triple-A Nashville. He’ll serve as an emergency catcher with the Astros behind Juan Castro, Carlos Corporan, and Chris Stewart.
  • Jason Jaramillo went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo homers Thursday for Triple-A Ottawa.
Jaramillo hit just .143 in May before Thursday’s outburst. He’s at .233/.310/.327 overall, which is disappointing. He’d have to step it up over the rest of the season if he wants to compete for a job on the Phillies next season.
  • Phillies purchased the contracts of catcher Jason Jaramillo and second baseman Brad Harman.
As little depth as they have, the Phillies shouldn’t have to worry about losing anyone in the Rule 5 drat. Jaramillo will be the regular catcher in Triple-A next year and could form a tandem with Carlos Ruiz in 2009. Harman will play second base in Double-A. He probably doesn’t have much of a future in the organization, but there was little harm in adding him.

Ryan Doumit underwent successful surgery on his right wrist on Thursday.
He’s expected to be sidelined for 8-10 weeks, but has decided to continue traveling with the Pirates instead of doing his rehab in Florida. Jason Jaramillo and Robinzon Diaz will handle the catching duties until Doumit is ready to return in late June or early July.
