Mets reassigned RHP Chris Devenski, INF Donovan Walton, C Jakson Reetz and LHP Génesis Cabrera and RHP José Ureña to minor league camp.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza made it official that Reed Garrett, José Butto and Danny Young will open the year in New York’s bullpen. The decision to jettison Walton leaves Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuña as the Mets’ primary bench options, but they haven’t officially made the team yet, added Mendoza. It also means that A.J. Minter and Dedniel Nuñez are probably headed to the injured list.
  • NYM Catcher #85
Jakson Reetz, who could open the season as Luis Torrens’ backup in Queens, hit a grand slam Sunday against the Nationals.
Reetz, 29, spent his first eight pro seasons in the Nationals organization before becoming a journeyman. Reetz has played for the Royals, Brewers, and Giants over the last three years, appearing in the majors for San Francisco briefly last season. He actually is a decent enough hitter, having come in at .241/.338/.467 with 32 homers in 755 career plate appearances in Triple-A. It’s his glove that’s prevented him from securing a backup gig in the majors, but he could help fill in for Francisco Alvarez initially this year.
  • NYM Catcher #50
Mets signed C Jakson Reetz to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Reetz augments New York’s catching depth behind burgeoning franchise cornerstone Francisco Alvarez heading into next season. The 28-year-old backstop got into six games this past year for the Giants, batting .143 (2-for-14) with one homer and five strikeouts at the dish. Reetz represents a solid emergency catching option for the Mets in case injuries strike Alvarez and backup Luis Torrens.
  • SF Catcher #50
Giants sent C Jakson Reetz outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
Reetz was DFA’d after the Giants replaced him as their backup catcher with Andrew Knapp. He’d gone 2-for-14 with a homer in six games for the club.
  • SF Catcher #50
Giants designated C Jakson Reetz for assignment.
The Giants signed veteran backstop Andrew Knapp on Friday, but in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster that meant that Reetz needed to get the boot. Once again, it’s likely that he slips through waivers unclaimed and continues to function as extra catching depth for the Giants.
  • SF Catcher #50
Giants recalled C Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento.
Reetz finds himself back in the majors ahead of Tuesday’s game against the White Sox with Patrick Bailey hitting the injured list with a right oblique strain. The 28-year-old backstop has gotten into six games this season for the Giants, batting .143 (2-for-14) with one homer.
  • SF Catcher #50
Giants optioned C Jakson Reetz to Triple-A Sacramento.
Reetz was up with the big-league club for a few days while Curt Casali was away on paternity leave. With Casali returning on Friday though, he’ll head back to Triple-A Sacramento where he’ll continue to stay ready until he’s called upon once more.
  • SF Catcher #50
Giants selected the contract of C Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento.
It should be another brief stint in the majors for Reetz, who will serve as a backup while Curt Casali is on the paternity list. He was hitting .250/.362/.428 in Triple-A.
  • SF Catcher #50
Giants sent C Jakson Reetz outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
As anticipated, the 28-year-old backstop passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to serve as extra catching depth for the Giants at the Triple-A level. Reetz went just 1-for-12 (.083) with a solo homer and four strikeouts during his time with the big league club.
  • SF Catcher #50
Giants designated C Jakson Reetz for assignment on Friday.
The Giants designated Reetz to make room for Drew Pomeranz on the 40-man roster. San Francisco now has seven days to either trade Reetz or place him on waivers.
