  • MIL Left Fielder #9
Jake Bauers hit a grand slam off Nathan Eovaldi as the Brewers edged the Rangers 6-5 in 10 innings Wednesday.
Midgame replacement Andruw Monasterio delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th. It was a little surprising to see Bauers start over Tyler Black today, but Pat Murphy seems to have made the right call. Bauers’ 444-foot slam was the first ever surrendered by Eovaldi. It was the second of his career, and his seventh homer in 192 plate appearances this season.

Jake Bauers followed up his homer Thursday by going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, a walk and a steal against the Cardinals on Friday.
There was a legitimate argument for DFAing Bauers and keeping Tyler Black after Christian Yelich came off the IL, but it was a weaker one if Yelich was going to DH frequently. Bauers thinks the Brewers made the right call, and he’s raised his OPS from .639 to .732 the last two days. He’ll play against most righties for now, though that’s not certain to last.

Jake Bauers went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and pitched a scoreless innings Sunday against the Yankees.
Bauers was in the lineup for just one game of the series against his previous team, but he made the most of it, delivering a three-run blast off Marcus Stroman. He’s at .214/.267/.411 in 60 plate appearances. A reduced role is probably coming once Christian Yelich (back) returns, particularly since Yelich will probably spend more time DHing than usual.

Brewers activated 1B/OF Jake Bauers from the bereavement list.
Bauers was away from the Brewers over the weekend. He returns to a .158/.220/.316 batting line over 41 plate appearances. Andruw Monasterio will head back to Triple-A.

Brewers placed 1B/OF Jake Bauers on the bereavement list.
The versatile 28-year-old will be away from the club for a couple of days. Andruw Monasterio was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move to provide depth off of the Brewers’ bench for their weekend series against the Cardinals.

Jake Bauers hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs Saturday in a victory over the Orioles on Saturday.
Bauers picked up his first RBI with a fielder’s choice groundout in the third. His next three runs driven in are much more exciting, as he broke a 5-5 tie with a three-run blast off Dean Kremer an inning later. A very nice day for the 28-year-old, but Bauers should be left on the waiver wire for the foreseeable future.

Rhys Hoskins is absent from the Brewers’ lineup for Wednesday evening’s showdown against the Reds.
Nothing unusual going on here, just a regular day of maintenance for the 31-year-old slugger. Christian Yelich will get a partial night off as well, sliding into the designated hitter spot while Jake Bauers will draw a start at first base and bat sixth against hard-throwing right-hander Hunter Greene.

Jake Bauers went 1-for-4 and drove in three runs on Friday night as the Brewers eked out a 5-4 victory over the Athletics in Cactus League play.
Bauers drove in a run in the third inning on a ground out to first base that tied the game at 2-2. He then smacked a two-run single off of Dany Jimenez in the fifth inning that extended the Brewers’ lead to 5-2 and would prove to be the difference in the ballgame. The 28-year-old is now hitting .267 (4-for-15) with four RBI and one stolen base on the spring.

The Brewers and Rhys Hoskins are in agreement on a two-year, $34 million deal, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports.
The contract will include an opt out after the first year. Hoskins figures to start at first base most of the time for Milwaukee, shifting Jake Bauers into the DH role for now, and likely bat fourth or fifth in the lineup. It’s a nice spot for him, and he might be good for 30 homers next year after missing 2023 with a torn ACL.

Brewers and OF/1B Jake Bauers avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.35 million deal.
Bauers was acquired from the Yankees in November for OFs Jace Avina and Brian Sánchez. The 28-year-old batting .202/.279/.413 with 12 home runs over 272 plate appearances this past season, but is currently one of the leading candidates to start at 1B for Milwaukee heading into spring training.
