  • COL Catcher #25
Jacob Stallings delivered a pair of doubles, including one that plated the go-ahead run in the ninth, as the Rockies topped the Tigers 4-2 on Thursday.
Stallings’ go-ahead hit was a blooper into shallow right, but it had some incredible spin on it and wound up getting by Matt Vierling. If not for that, there would have been a play at the plate or perhaps Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t have even tried to score in the first place. As it, it turned into a big setback for the Tigers’ postseason hopes.
  • COL Catcher #35
Elias Díaz (calf) remains out of the Rockies’ lineup on Wednesday against the Twins.
Díaz felt calf tightness in Monday’s game and didn’t play on Tuesday. As of now, there is no indication that the Rockies will put him on the IL, but Jacob Stallings will start again on Wednesday.
  • COL Catcher #35
Elias Díaz (calf) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Twins.
Díaz left Monday’s game with tightness in his left calf, and he’ll miss at least one more game while recovering. Jacob Stallings will be the starting backstop and hit fifth with Díaz on the bench.
  • COL Catcher #35
Elias Díaz (hand) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Giants.
Díaz is dealing with left-handed soreness, and the Rockies will give the 33-year-old at least one more day off. Jacob Stallings is back in the lineup and hitting ninth while handling the backstop duties.
  • COL Catcher #25
Jacob Stallings went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs on Wednesday in a lopsided victory over the Padres in San Diego.
Stallings smacked a two-run single off of Michael King in the third inning that extended the Rockies’ lead to 5-0. That would be more than enough run support for their pitching staff in this one. With his two-hit attack, Stallings is now hitting a healthy .320/.397/.480 with two homers and 11 RBI in 58 plate appearances on the season.
  • COL Catcher #25
Jacob Stallings hit a three-run homer in an extra-inning loss to the Marlins on Thursday.
Stallings took Edward Cabrera deep in the second inning with a pair of runners on. The 34-year-old has his first homer as a member of the Rockies, and it comes against one of his former teams. Stallings hasn’t only received 29 at-bats, but he’s made the most of them with a .345/.429/.517 slash.
  • COL Third Baseman #23
Kris Bryant (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Blue Jays.
Bryant exited Saturday’s game against the Jays with tightness in his back after he crashed into the outfield wall. The 32-year-old will take a seat for the finale with Jacob Stallings handling catching duties, Elehuris Montero at first base and Elias Diaz lined up at DH. Bryant is considered day-to-day.
  • COL Catcher #58
Rockies signed C Jacob Stallings to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with a mutual option for 2025.
MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand adds that the deal includes a $500,000 buyout that can escalate to $1 million. It’s hard to envision a better landing spot for fantasy purposes, but Stallings hasn’t exactly been a relevant fantasy contributor outside of extremely deep two-catcher formats. The 34-year-old backstop posted an underwhelming .565 OPS with three homers and 20 RBI in 276 plate appearances this past season for the Marlins.
  • FA Catcher #58
    Marlins non-tendered C Jacob Stallings.
Stallings was a solid enough offensive catcher for the Pirates back in the day, but he hit .223/.292/.292 and .191/.278/.286 in his two years with the Marlins. It looks like the team will find someone else to pair with Nick Fortes. Stallings should find a backup gig elsewhere.
  • MIA Catcher #58
Jacob Stallings had two doubles, the second knocking in three runs, Friday against the Braves.
The Marlins have waited all year for either Stallings or Nick Fortes to show anything at all offensively, and Stallings has finally come alive of late, batting .265 with two homers and seven doubles in his last 16 games. That’s not exactly Trea Turner hot, but it’s raised his OPS from .531 to .604.
