Rays acquired RHP Jack Hartman from the Pirates for 1B Ji-Man Choi.
The 24-year-old right-hander was a fourth round selection by the Pirates from the 2020 draft. He spent his first minor league season at Low-A Bradenton in 2022, posting an uninspiring 6.27 ERA, 2.04 WHIP and 19/16 K/BB ratio over 18 2/3 innings. The Rays are a bright organization -- so it’s likely that they see something they can work with here -- but this move was more of a salary dump than anything else.
