    Diamondbacks released INF Jace Peterson.
Peterson was designated for assignment by Arizona on Friday, and rather than report back to Triple-A after going unclaimed, the infielder is now on the free agent market. The 33-year-old scuffled with a .045 average in 22 at-bats, but his versatility should see him get a look with another team; likely on a minor-league deal.

Diamondbacks designated INF Jace Peterson for assignment.
With Pavin Smith and Jordan Montgomery joining the big league roster on Friday, someone needed to get the boot from the active roster and unfortunately Peterson drew the short straw this time around. The versatile 33-year-old was just 1-for-22 (.045) with six strikeouts in his time with the Diamondbacks.

Ketel Marte and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. are not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Rockies.
It’s a tough break for fantasy managers as Marte and Gurriel receive a rare day off at Coors Field with Jace Peterson and Jake McCarthy getting the nod at second base and left field, respectively, to face Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill.
  • ARI Shortstop #2
Geraldo Perdomo (knee) remains out of the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Friday’s battle against the Braves.
Perdomo was pulled from Wednesday’s game due to minor discomfort in his knee and it’s still bothering him a bit after Thursday’s off-day. He’s still considered day-to-day for the time being, but it’s a situation worth monitoring. What’s a bit curious is that the Diamondbacks are rolling out utilityman Jace Peterson at the position on Friday instead of Blaze Alexander — meaning that Alexander looks to be strictly limited to facing left-handers at the moment, capping any potential fantasy value that he may have had.

Jace Peterson went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs on Saturday, propelling the Diamondbacks to a 6-2 victory over the Rockies in Cactus League play.
On-base Jace got the scoring started in this one with a two-out RBI single off of Noah Davis in the opening inning. He then plated Alek Thomas with a run-scoring double in the third inning, then came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Jose Herrera. Peterson’s versatility should earn him a spot on the Diamondbacks’ Opening Day bench, but he’s going to require an injury somewhere in the infield to have any sort of standalone value from a fantasy perspective.
  • MLB Shortstop #28
Kevin Newman is signing with the Diamondbacks, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert says it’s a minor league deal. The Diamondbacks already have two veteran reserve infielders on their roster in Emmanuel Rivera and Jace Peterson, but neither of them is a quality backup shortstop. Newman fits there, so maybe Peterson will wind up getting released at some point. Newman hit .253/.311/.364 in 253 PA for the Reds last season.

The Diamondbacks announced their roster for the 2023 World Series with just one change from the NLCS roster, Jace Peterson was added in place of RHP Slade Cecconi.
Peterson was a late addition to the Wild Card roster but didn’t see any action against his former team. He did find his way into two NLDS games, going 0-for-1 at the plate. Peterson was then left off the NLCS roster but is back on the team for the World Series. He’ll be taking the roster spot of RHP Slade Cecconi who has faced six batters this postseason, giving up two hits (no runs allowed) while striking out one. The rest of the Diamondbacks roster is unchanged from the NLCS as they ready to take on the Rangers, with the Dbacks currently +145 underdogs in the betting market.
  • ARI Second Baseman #6
The Diamondbacks have removed Jace Peterson from the roster for the NLCS, replacing him with a 13th pitcher in Slade Cecconi.
It’s the only change. Peterson was originally left off the Wild Card roster, only to be added at the last minute after Jake McCarthy got hurt. He came off the bench in two of Arizona’s first five postseason games, but he had just one at-bat and grounded out.
  • ARI Center Fielder #31
Jake McCarthy was removed from the Diamondbacks’ postseason roster after sustaining a right oblique injury before Tuesday’s game against the Brewers.
It’s not yet clear exactly how the injury occurred, but McCarthy has been removed from the team’s roster in favor of Jace Peterson. No word yet on how long McCarthy may be sidelined for and if he could be an option for the Diamondbacks if they advance deeper into the postseason.
  • ARI First Baseman #26
Pavin Smith is on the Diamondbacks’ Wild Card roster against the Brewers.
Smith actually finished the season in Triple-A after hitting just .188/.317/.325 over 228 plate appearances in the majors this season, but he’ll get the nod over Jace Peterson on the roster. Also of note, Bryce Jarvis is on the roster while Kyle Nelson has been left off.
