The Brewers have given up on finding another winter league home for J.J. Hardy, who was deactivated by his team in Mexico.
Hardy is now back home. “The good news is that his shoulder felt great,” Brewers farm director Reid Nichols said. “We already knew it was OK or we wouldn’t have sent him down there.”
  • BAL Shortstop #2
Brewers reassigned SS J.J. Hardy, RHP Matt Childers and C John Vanden Berg to minor league camp.
Hardy would have stuck around longer if not for a shoulder injury. He’s still expected to open the minor league season on time.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
J.J. Hardy is being held out of game action due to soreness in his left (non-throwing) shoulder.
Manager Ned Yost said Hardy overdid a front-hand hitting drill a few days back and developed the soreness. The shortstop prospect is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Indianapolis.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
J.J. Hardy has started hitting in minor league games, leaving the Brewers optimistic that he’ll be ready to play when the Triple-A season begins.
Hardy, reassigned to minor league camp last week, has been sidelined with soreness in his non-throwing shoulder.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
J.J. Hardy underwent surgery yesterday to repair his labrum.
The operation was performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum. Hardy, the Brewers’ shortstop of the future, is out for the season.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
The Brewers plan on sending J.J. Hardy to the Arizona Fall League.
Prince Fielder will join him there, but they haven’t made a decision on other players yet.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
J.J. Hardy (ankle) won’t start baseball activities for at least another week.
Hardy’s return should be quick once he can run without pain. He likely won’t start when he returns, but his value in NL-only leagues should be enough to keep him on most rosters.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
J.J. Hardy (ankle) reportedly isn’t close to returning from the disabled list.
“Until you see him taking a lot of ground balls and taking a lot of BP, he’s not close,” manager Ned Yost said. Hardy will be out five weeks Tuesday and his original timetable was 2-6 weeks.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
J.J. Hardy (ankle) has begun taking ground balls and hitting in the indoor cage, but manager Ned Yost said he was “still not close” to a rehabilitation assignment.
Hardy took grounders straight-on Saturday, without moving laterally, and “they moved him a little more today,” Yost said. He gave no timetable for Hardy’s return.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
J.J. Hardy took batting practice prior to Tuesday’s game.
Hardy is still bothered by a loose tendon in the ankle. “I don’t think it felt as good as he wanted it to feel,” manager Ned Yost said. He could still be several weeks from returning from the disabled list.
