Diamondbacks sent RHP Humberto Castellanos outright to Triple-A Reno.
Castellanos passed through waivers unclaimed and will presumably stick around with Arizona as emergency pitching depth after being designated for assignment last weekend. The 26-year-old righty made seven relief appearances for the Diamondbacks in his first stint back in the big leagues since 2022.

Diamondbacks designated RHP Humberto Castellanos for assignment.
Castellanos is off the 40-man roster, and it’s necessitated by the Diamondbacks activating Merrill Kelly off the 60-day injured list. Castellanos will now be on waivers, and if he goes unclaimed he’ll likely report back to Triple-A Reno.

Humberto Castellanos will serve as the Diamondbacks’ 27th man for Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Castellanos was sent down last night before the game was rained out. He’ll likely join Triple-A Reno after today’s festivities.

Diamondbacks recalled RHP Humberto Castellanos from Triple-A Reno.
With Bryce Jarvis (elbow) landing on the injured list on Friday, Castellanos will get another opportunity to pitch out of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen. The 26-year-old hurler has struggled to a 5.23 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and a 7/4 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings in seven appearances at the big-league level this season. Expect him to be utilized in middle relief.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Humberto Castellanos to Triple-A Reno.
Castellanos, 26, is sent down to make room for Jordan Montgomery on the active roster after Montgomery was activated off the injured list for his start Tuesday. Castellanos will likely be back as a middle-innings option and nothing more before the end of 2024.

Humberto Castellanos recorded a two-out save on Saturday in the Diamondbacks’ extra-inning win over the Padres.
With Paul Sewald presumably unavailable after a blown save on Friday night, Castellanos got the call to protect a two-run lead after Thyago Viera served up an RBI double to Donovan Solano and recorded just one out to open the 10th inning. The 26-year-old righty struck out Ha-Seong Kim on a foul tip before coaxing a game-ending fly out from Kyle Higashioka to put out the fire.

Diamondbacks recalled RHP Humberto Castellanos from Triple-A Reno.
Castellanos received the call to rejoin Arizona’s relief mix for Friday’s showdown against the Athletics. The 26-year-old righty made one relief appearance earlier this months in mop-up duty.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Humberto Castellanos to Triple-A Reno.
The 26-year-old right-hander was obliterated in his lone appearance with the Diamondbacks, giving up five runs on five hits over his 2 1/3 innings of work. Scott McGough was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move on Saturday to take his place in the Diamondbacks’ bullpen.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #32
Brandon Pfaadt was lit up for five runs over 5 1/3 innings on Friday in a loss to the Padres.
Pfaadt, who allowed nine hits (including three home runs) and teammate Humberto Castellanos were each tagged for five runs as they soaked up nearly a complete game to spare Arizona’s overworked bullpen, which frankly needed a break after some heavy usage earlier this week. He struck out five and only handed out one free pass. He’ll bring an inflated 4.60 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 76/15 K/BB ratio across 78 1/3 innings (13 starts) into tasty matchup on Thursday against the Angels at Chase Field.
