Astros signed INF/OF Greg Jones to a minor league contract.
Jones was released by the White Sox in the early portion of May, and the 27-year-old will give the Astros some versatile depth in the minors. Houston will need to add the former first-round pick to the 40-man roster in order to promote him to the active roster.
  • FA Right Fielder #30
White Sox released INF/OF Greg Jones.
Jones offers some appeal as a role player off the bench at the highest level, but doesn’t project as an everyday player at this stage of his career. The 27-year-old former first-round pick got into just three games this season for the White Sox. He’ll head to the open market in search of a new opportunuty.
  • CWS Right Fielder #30
White Sox optioned OF Greg Jones to Triple-A Charlotte.
With Andrew Benintendi set to come off the IL, the White Sox sent Jones back down to make room. The 27-year-old went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in his time with the White Sox and stole a base as a pinch runner.
  • CWS Right Fielder #30
White Sox recalled INF/OF Greg Jones from Triple-A Charlotte.
Jones was just optioned back down to Charlotte Friday, but he’s allowed to be recalled since he’ll take the place of Austin Slater, with Slater hitting the injured list. Jones will be a bench option with the White Sox while with the team; probably for longer than 24 hours this time.
  • CWS Right Fielder #30
White Sox optioned INF/OF Greg Jones to Triple-A Charlotte.
Jones was only with the White Sox for two days. The speedy 27-year-old likely will make a few trips between Charlotte and Chicago in 2025. It’s not too long a flight.
  • CWS Shortstop #82
White Sox recalled INF/OF Greg Jones from Triple-A Charlotte.
Jones will be on the active roster with Andrew Benintendi out with his adductor injury. While Jones offers top-of-the-scales speed, he doesn’t have enough offensive upside — and won’t get enough playing time — to suggest he offers fantasy upside.
  • CWS Shortstop #2
White Sox claimed INF/OF Greg Jones off waivers from the Rockies and optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte.
Jones was designated for assignment by Colorado, and the White Sox will give the speedy 27-year-old a look in their organization. A good showing in Charlotte could see Jones up with the White Sox relatively quickly, but there’s very little potential fantasy value even with his well above-average wheels.
  • COL Shortstop #2
Rockies optioned INF/OF Greg Jones to Triple-A Albuquerque and reassigned LHP Jack O’Loughlin, INF Ryan Ritter, OF Cole Carrigg, OF Sterlin Thompson and OF Benny Montgomery to minor league camp.
Jones is a speedy player who offers some defensive versatility, but the former first-round pick simply hasn’t hit enough to suggest he’s anything more than organizational depth at this stage of his career.
  • COL Shortstop #2
Rockies optioned INF/OF Greg Jones to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Just one day after hitting his first major league home run against the Dodgers, Jones is shipped back to Albuquerque as Sean Bouchard (ankle) returns from the injured list. The versatile 26-year-old went 1-for-5 (.200) with a solo homer and four strikeouts in six plate appearances during his short stay with the Rockies.
  • COL Shortstop #2
Greg Jones hit his first major league homer as a pinch-hitter Monday against the Dodgers.
Jones, a longtime Rays prospect, took fellow former Rays pitcher JP Feyereisen deep tonight. It’s Jones’ first hit in five at-bats since his callup 11 days ago. The Rockies, who are suffering for their utter inability to manage a 40-man roster, have given Jones just one start since calling him up from Triple-A. All indications are that he’ll head back to the minors in the near future, but it still might make sense for Colorado to give him some at-bats in the meantime.
