Mariners signed OF Grant Witherspoon to a minor league contract.
Witherspoon provides Seattle with some emergency outfield depth at Triple-A Tacoma after spending the last six years between Tampa Bay and Detroit’s systems. The 27-year-old outfielder posted a .760 OPS with 10 homers and nine steals in 306 plate appearances last year between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo.

Tigers released RHP Kervin Castro, LHP Miguel Del Pozo, C Andrew Knapp and OF Grant Witherspoon.
All four were on the Triple-A Toledo roster. Castro and Del Pozo both had Tommy John surgery this summer and figure to miss most of 2024.

Tigers acquired OF Grant Witherspoon from the Rays for cash considerations.
Witherspoon batted .266/.343/.467 with 17 homers and 15 stolen bases across 115 games last year between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. The 26-year-old outfielder provides the Tigers with some upper-level depth heading into the minor league season.

The Tigers have acquired outfielder Grant Witherspoon from the Rays, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press.
The 25-year-old Witherspoon, a fourth-round pick in 2018, hit .266/.343/.467 with 17 homers in 115 games between Double- and Triple-A last season. He’s not a future regular, but he’d definitely seem to have a better shot of reaching the majors with the Tigers than he would have with the Rays.
