Grant Holmes (elbow) faced hitters on Saturday in a live batting practice session.
Holmes was sitting in the mid-90’s with his fastball during his latest early-spring throwing session, according to MLB.com’s Mark Bowman. Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos confirmed earlier this week that the 29-year-old, who is working his way back from a partial UCL tear in his right elbow, will have a spot in the club’s season-opening rotation. He’s a worthwhile late-round dart throw in deeper mixed leagues, especially if Atlanta opts against putting a governor on his workload.

Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos confirmed that Reynaldo López and Grant Holmes will be in the team’s starting rotation.
This was to be expected, with Spencer Schwellenbach needing elbow surgery and AJ Smith-Shawver also sidelined after elbow surgery. Despite being limited to just one start last season, we’d much rather gamble on López in fantasy drafts, who posted a 1.99 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 148/42 K/BB ratio in 2024. Holmes is also coming off a late-season UCL injury that he did not have surgery for in the offseason, so he remains a huge risk in fantasy leagues.

Grant Holmes believes the UCL sprain he was diagnosed with last summer might have been a preexisting condition, rather than a new injury.
Holmes feels good and ready to battle for a rotation spot this spring. “That was the first image I’ve ever had on my elbow,” he said. “So, nobody knows if that [UCL] tear was there beforehand and [the new injury] was really just a flexor [strain]. Honestly, I think that’s what it was, because if I had a tear in the flexor tendon and the UCL, that would have been a whole lot different. I wouldn’t have recovered as fast.” Holmes initially seemed destined for a bullpen spot in 2026, but the Braves never did make a much-anticipated rotation addition this winter and now they’ve already lost Spencer Schwellenbach for months. It’d seem to leave Holmes in good position at the moment, though it’s still possible the Braves could bring in a starter.

Grant Holmes hasn’t had any setbacks while rehabbing his UCL tear and, in fact, now feels like his stuff better than before the injury.
Good news for the Braves. Holmes should be in the mix for a rotation spot in the spring, but he might have a better chance of remaining healthy in the pen. The right-hander was 4-9 with a 3.99 ERA in 21 starts and one relief appearance before getting hurt last season.

Grant Holmes (elbow) has opted against undergoing surgery.
Holmes made the decision to embark on the rest and rehabilitation route after weighing several medical opinions since hitting the injured list back in late July with elbow inflammation. The 29-year-old righty will miss the rest of the current season, but his outlook is now much brighter heading into next season. The decision offers a much faster recovery timetable, but there’s the lingering possibility than any sort of setback during his rehabilitation process would likely result in a surgical procedure, based on the history of pitchers taking this path in the past.

MLB.com’s Mark Bowman reports Grant Holmes may require Tommy John surgery.
Holmes will miss the rest of the season after landing on the injured list over the weekend with elbow inflammation. The question now is whether he’ll undergo Tommy John surgery or opt for the less invasive internal brace procedure, which offers a shorter recovery timeline. There should be an update on his status at some point in the next few weeks.

Braves transferred RHP Grant Holmes to the 60-day injured list.
The 29-year-old right-hander landed on the injured list on Sunday with right elbow inflammation and now it’s clear that he’ll miss the remainder of the season. This also cleared a spot on the club’s 40-man roster for the addition of Erick Fedde.

Braves placed RHP Grant Holmes on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
It’s another major blow to Atlanta’s rotation, which has already been hit hard by injuries to Chris Sale (rib) and Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow). Holmes emerged as a surprising stabilizer this season, posting a solid 3.99 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 123/54 K/BB across 115 innings (22 appearances, 21 starts). The 29-year-old right-hander will undergo further evaluation and imaging to determine the severity of the elbow issue and how much time he might miss. With only two months left in the season, there’s a real chance he doesn’t return.

Grant Holmes (elbow) will be placed on the 15-day injured list prior to Sunday’s game against the Rangers.
Holmes will be evaluated further to determine the severity of the injury, but the 29-year-old mentioned soreness in his right elbow after he was hit during Saturday’s start against the Rangers. He’ll be out for at least two weeks, but the testing/imagine will determine just how much time Holmes is going to miss.

Grant Holmes allowed three runs in six innings and took the loss against the Yankees on Sunday.
Holmes gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out two. The 29-year-old right-hander got off to a rough start in the first inning as he allowed a home run to Aaron Judge and an RBI single to Paul Goldschmidt. Holmes settled in from there, only allowing one more run in the sixth inning. He has a 3.81 ERA and 121/52 K/BB ratio in 111 innings this year. Holmes is lined up to face the Rangers on the road next weekend.
