    Cubs recalled RHP Gavin Hollowell from Triple-A Iowa.
    Hollowell will be making his Cubs and his 2024 debut if he gets into a game. He had a 6.20 ERA in 32 appearances with the Rockies in 2022 and ’23. The Cubs picked him up on waivers from the Diamondbacks last month.

    The 26-year-old hurler was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Iowa where he’ll begin his tenure with the Cubs. Hollowell has spent the majority of the season at the Triple-A level where he has compiled a 5.70 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and a 33/18 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings. He’ll add bullpen depth in the upper minors for the Cubs.

    The move opens a spot on the 40-man for Luis Guillorme. Hollowell, a waiver claim from the Rockies in June, never pitched in the majors for the Diamondbacks. He had a 6.20 ERA in 32 relief appearances for the Rockies the last two years.

    Hollowell will take the 40-man roster spot of Logan Allen after Allen was designated for assignment last week. The 26-year-old right-hander will provide some depth for the bullpen, and could work in the middle innings for Arizona this summer.

    The Rockies now have 42 active players on in spring camp. Carreras, 24, didn’t make the most of his opportunity in camp going 5-for-27 (.185 AVG), but did show off his power and speed with three of those hits turning into doubles. He spent most of his time in Double-A last season, but while up at Triple-A he slashed .255/.371/.373 in 62 plate appearances.

    Gavin Hollowell allowed two runs over 2 2/3 innings to record his first career save in the opening contest of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Giants.
    Hollowell entered the contest with one out in the seventh inning, with the Rockies leading by six runs at the time, and wound up going the distance to notch his first save.
