  • MIL Catcher #99
Brewers replaced C Gary Sánchez on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 24, with a strained left calf.
The Brewers don’t think Sánchez’s injury is serious, but they weren’t going to continue to play without a backup catcher. Eric Haase will take his spot at least until he’s eligible to return July 4.
  • MIL Catcher #99
Gary Sánchez was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup due to left calf tightness.
It sounds like a precautionary move by the Brewers as it’ll be William Contreras handling the catching duties instead on Tuesday night. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • MIL Catcher #24
William Contreras is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates.
It appears to be a routine off day for Conteras after handling the catching duties in three consecutive contests. The 26-year-old has put together a phenomenal season so far, batting .293/.354/.443 with nine homers and five steals across 339 plate appearances over 75 contests. It’ll be Gary Sánchez behind the plate in his absence.
  • MIL Catcher #24
William Contreras is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Tigers.
Contreras was supposed to get his first day off of the season last Sunday, but he and Willy Adames were both inserted into the lineup later. Assuming the lineup doesn’t change, Contreras will finally get that day of rest. Gary Sanchez is the starting catcher and hitting fifth.
  • MIL Catcher #99
Gary Sanchez is hitting sixth and catching Monday against the Royals.
Sanchez, 31, will make his first start since he was removed from Tuesday’s game with hamstring tightness. The veteran backstop will give William Contreras a break from catching with Contreras leading off as the designated hitter.

Gary Sánchez was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Rays with right hamstring tightness.
Sánchez was immediately lifted from the contest after reaching on a fielder’s choice in the opening frame. There should be an update on the severity of the injury following the contest. Any potential extended absence would presumably open up even more at-bats for top prospect Tyler Black moving forward.
  • MIL Catcher #99
Gary Sánchez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.
Sánchez got the Brewers on the board in the eighth inning with a 432-foot shot that left the bat at 113.5 mph. It was his second home run on the season, and the veteran is hitting just .167/.211/.361. Considering William Contreras rarely sits, Sánchez is not a recommended play in most fantasy leagues.
  • MIL Catcher #99
Gary Sánchez went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in the Brewers’ 7-4 defeat of the Cubs on Saturday.
With Sal Frelick’s ability to play third base alleviating the outfield logjam, it looks like Sánchez should get a whole lot of playing time at DH early on. Maybe it won’t last — the Brewers’ best lineup probably has Christian Yelich at DH — but he should be a fair enough No. 2 in two-catcher mixed leagues initially.

Gary Sánchez (hand) will make his spring training debut on Saturday at designated hitter against the Athletics.
Sánchez suffered an offseason hand injury, which led to some contractual complications with the Brewers last month, but the two sides were ultimately able to finalize a one-year pact. The 31-year-old slugger figures to serve as backstop William Contreras’ primary caddy, while also picking up occasional starts at designated hitter. There’s some appeal in deeper mixed leagues, if he’s fully healthy.

Gary Sánchez (hand) will take live batting practice Wednesday for the first time this spring.
Sánchez suffered a hand injury in a workout prior to signing with the Brewers, but he appears to be making good progress. He could a live BP session on Tuesday and it shouldn’t be long before he finds his way into game action. The 31-year-old will serve as William Contreras’ backup as well as receive at-bats out of the DH spot this season.
