Royals LHP prospect Garrett Davila earned the win by logging 5 2/3 shutout innings Saturday in his professional debut for Rookie-level Burlington.
He finished with five strikeouts and three walks. The 19-year-old retired seven straight hitters before allowing a leadoff single to Princeton second baseman Robbie Tenerowicz in the second inning. Kansas City selected Davila as a fourth-round pick in 2015 but it took him over a year to make his debut after the Royals put him on a strength training program so he could gain weight. The left-hander pitched to an incredible 0.11 ERA as a senior at South Point High School in North Carolina last spring.
