The Marlins have hired Gabe Kapler to join the front office, serving as the assistant general manager, per Craig Mish of SportsGrid and the Miami Herald.
Kapler spent 12 years in the big leagues as a player and after his playing career, he joined the Dodgers as director of player development in 2014. As Ken Rosenthal reports, his success in that role was one of the main selling points for hiring him for this position. Kapler also spent six seasons in the manager role, two with the Phillies and four with the Giants, amassing a 456-411 win-loss record along the way. The Marlins don’ts currently have a General Manager so Kapler will serve under Peter Bendix, the president of baseball operations for the Marlins.

The Red Sox have interviewed Gabe Kapler for their head of baseball operations role, reports Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.
Kapler was recently let go by the Giants after serving as their manager for the last four seasons. He racked up a 295-248 win-loss record (54.3%) during his time with the Giants with the highlight being a playoff run in 2021 that ended with a loss to the Dodgers in the NLDS. Prior to that, he managed for the Phillies for two seasons. Kapler spent 12 years in the majors as a player, including a four-year stint with the Red Sox, from 2003 to 2006. Kapler is the seventh-known candidate to interview for the Red Sox position and certainly qualifies as a “wild card” in the mix. Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com describes him as a “long shot” to get the job.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler said on Saturday that Hunter Pence will be in camp this spring in a coaching and mentoring role.
This is fun. Pence hung up his cleats following the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, after a remarkable 14-year career, and will be with the Giants this spring to assist their next generation of talent. The 39-year-old spent nearly a decade in San Francisco and was a part of two World Series championship teams.

Pete Putila has been named the new general manager of the Giants.
He’ll replace Scott Harris, who left the Giants last month to take over as the Tigers’ president of baseball operations. Putila had a 12-year stay in the Astros’ organization, most recently operating as assistant general manager. He was as a finalist for the GM opening in San Francisco in 2019, which at the time went to Harris. The 33-year-old rising front office star will work under Giants president Farhan Zaidi to attempt to right the ship after a .500 (81-81) campaign in 2022.

Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said Friday that he could hire a new general manager “relatively quickly.”
The Giants are looking for a replacement after Scott Harris left to head up the Tigers’ front office. We’d expect the club to settle on someone before free agency officially begins. Zaidi said he’s looking for fresh perspectives this offseason and also expects Buster Posey to play a role in shaping the team’s future.
